Does anyone know if this is a totally flat paint color or is there any type of metallic or flake in it?

It's totally their version of Lunar Rock from Toyota:

I love the lunar rock Toyota color. It looks like maybe Earl is more blue though.. that why I can’t decide if I love it or not.

I like both but sting grey is still an awesome color. I should have gotten sting grey. my dealer talked me out of it cause of how nuts I am with my paint and worrying about swirls. He said it swirls pretty easy if you aren't really careful washing.

As soon as I read this I instantly thought of a cup of tea.
Sting Grey is tough if you are picky about swirls. I am, and utilize diligent washing methods and it was still hard. I ended up applying PPF to the doors. I went Granite Crystal this time around to use the metal flake to help hide the swirl

see i'm glad i listened him. he knew what he was talking about and it makes sense cause even a flat white paint can show swirls. anything with flakes helps to an extent. i figured a really flat color like sting would be like that. even my wife was like " know you love it but I don't want to live with you and this jeep." lol i am as careful as i can possibly be but in the winter it gets a lot harder. i wash in my heated garage but you always get dirt thatches out of a crack or something that is wet and contaminated your mis or whatever without you even knowing it and then its too late.

so i chickened out and went white. the silver one on the lot had leather and i didn't want leather this time around. i should have gotten sarge green. i'm so boring.

Serious question how does a "flat" color get swirls if it's clear coated? I'm picking up a stinggray saturday

Thoughts on these two? I was sold on the Sting Gray, but now I’m considering the Earl Gray since I have to wait to order anyway. The only thing- I think the red Rubicon letters might look better on the Sting.
While we're at it, let's decide which is the better tasting milkshake, vanilla or chocolate. I need to get this sorted out.

On paint colors, which are 100% subjective, of course, I favor MY gray.

I also just saw a video that said another new color for Wranglers is Silver Zynith. I don’t know how that compares to the Billet Silver that is being taken away.
Makes sense since that’s a new color on the Grand Cherokee L. Probably replaces Billet. Looks like it has a “smoother” grain to the metal flake. I really liked how much Billet sparkled hard sunlight.

EDIT: Actually, as I look closer at the color, it might not have any metal flake at all. Jeep doesn’t call it a metallic or a pearl coat.

Just use a good ceramic wax and you should be good to go, no?

I'm trying to decipher the true difference as well. Its almost a "toned down" Billet Silver color. There are some videos of it and personally, it looks meh in all lights.

Gimme that Earl Gray dammit!

Well, I've done two vehicles in ceramic coating, yes. Essentially you scratch the glass coating and not the paint. I don't know why, but I didn't love the coating. I have hard water (even though I run through a softner and a built in Deionizer) and ceramic coatings are susceptible to spotting. Regardless, Sting Grey is a fantastic color and worth the extra hassle if your up for it

Well, a swirl is in the clear coat layer. Flat colors don't have the the metalics that change the light reflection (I'm sure someone can describe that better) which helps mask the swirls. The flat primer like colors just show them a bit more. I offroaded my Sting Grey JLUR pretty good and it wasn't bad, I wouldn't stress over it.

Based on your description there, I think the Sting Grey may have bugged you a bit. Or you would just be running a polish a lot, lol. That's the beauty of a Jeep, White, Grey, Green, they can all have personality.
