I was sitting in my Jeep, minding my own business in a parking lot when I felt a fairly heavy bump on the driver side. I looked over and a Jetta owner had opened his car door against the side step. Put a nasty ding in his car door, did nothing to the running board. Amazingly, he got mad at me …

I now have the Rock Hard 4x4 Patriot Angled-Up sliders which offer great protection and are helpful as a step getting out...but not as an entry step. I just step over them and use the pillar handle to pull me up into the Jeep. My JLR rides a 2.5" lift with 37's and even my 5'2" GF has no problem getting in/out.

You can bet the farm had he put a big dent in your door from flinging his door open, he would have blamed you for that as well!

I vote no steps. I would get some low profile sliders you could get your toe on in a pinch but not to use as a regular step.

My JKU came with tube steps, but I pulled them off until I could afford sliders, which was after I lifted it 2.5” and threw 35’s on. I’m a short guy (5’6” on a good hair day), but I had no problem jumping in. Good grab handles helped, but the JL’s come with them.

I had people complain, but that’s okay because it’s not their Jeep. :)

I bought some cheap rock rails, you can kind of use it as a step, and it also protects the body. I believe I paid some where around $180-$250? Works for my gf, parents and my little nephews and neices to get in the jeep no problem.

It was funny reading your response to that post, because I was about to chime in with that exact scenario.

I happen to be walking back to my Jeep, after running into 711 for morning coffee, and just missed seeing but still heard a decent thud sound. Turned out it was the sound of an audi drivers door hitting my LOD Destroyers on my drivers side, because I always back into spots in busy lots. The fool crimped the trailing edge of their door so bad that it couldn't close beyond the 1st click of the latch. I just stood there, and after a moment, the nitwit sees me and angrily ? asks "is this your car?" Not feeling an ounce of empathy, I responded "it's not a car, it's a Jeep". :like: Unsurprisingly, that didn't make him feel better. He then tried getting snippy, insinuating that it was somehow my fault. I quickly cut him off, verbally shaking him by the shoulders like an unruly and over entitled child, but maintaining a calm and composed and non aggressive manner. I like doing that because it makes it clear to onlookers who the real problem is. I more or less told him, not asked, that he wouldn't have cared if my door panel absorbed all the damage. Now I'm going on about my day, while enjoying my coffee, and you (him) will hopefully learn a hard taught lesson about being considerate of others and their property.
