I started installing my AMP power steps on my 2021 Rubicon 392. Two questions for those who have installed them.
1) How many wires do you have coming through the grommet in the floor board? Instructions say 2 trigger wires(purple) and 1 power wire. All I have are 2 purple trigger wires and no matter how I run them,they barely reach into the cab.
2) What do your connections look like on your harness going to the step motors? My connectors look nothing like the plug ins on my harness.

Called AMP power steps Monday morning. After I gave my description of the harness the tech guy said”you have the wrong harness” He asked for pics,purchase invoice and shipping address. I received a confirmation email 5 minutes later, and I received my harness today. Awesome customer service.

Waking up an old thread. I bought AMP Research power steps for my 2021 JLUR. Twice I received a set with the wrong wiring harness and motor mounting plates. My sets were made 8/22/25 and 9/9/25. Both were made in Mexico.

Who did you buy them through?

Some Amp Research PowerSteps are shipping with bad solenoids. My steps only go up half the time. I'm getting the "next week or two" response from them as to replacement parts.

Another update;

The Good; Extreme Terrain has been fantastic to work with on this problem. I returned both sets of steps and Extreme Terrain gave a full refund. Because the steps are kind of bulky, Extreme Terrain arranged for pick up at my house.

The Not So Good; Real Truck, the owner of Amp Research, has been contacted about the issues. They promised to send out a complete new set in 5-10 days. That has now slipped to mid-January, maybe. I was told they are awaiting a large order. Looking at various on-line retailers, it seems nobody has AMP Research products in stock.

AMP Research steps were originally made in the USA. Both of my sets were made in Mexico. The regular power steps adopted a new motor design that mounts in a different location. The Smart, XL, and Extreme power steps use the older motor design, with no date on when they will be updated with the new motor design. It is my opinion that during the move to Mexico, some things fell through the cracks. Hence, older style wiring harnesses sent with new motors.

I'm about the give up on AMP Research and choose another brand, but I don't know who. Rhino, Rough Country, and Westin make a step that interests me. Anybody with experience with these brands?

One of the major differences between other brands and AMP Research is the switches are magnets held to the doorways, by adhesive pads. Similar to how RV steps are triggered. AMP Research steps plugs a module into the OBD connector. Has anybody had a door magnet fall off?

I also noticed several of the other brands have metal skid plates that protect the motors. This is my daily driver, and I don't plan on any rock crawling. Does anybody have any experience with how vulnerable the motors are to damage from hitting something?
