I have a 2020 2.0L Jeep Wrangler JLU. Last week I got a message saying “Start Stop not Ready, Battery Charging”. After a couple days of the message I took it in to the dealer, it’s still under warranty. They kept it for a day and said both batteries were reading good and they made sure they were charged. Yesterday, 620/22 I got the same message. Brought it back to the dealer and they said it wasn’t showing any codes and the batteries were charged but the message was displaying and the Start/Stop was not working. They then contacted Chrysler STAR who advised them to replace the IBS Sensor and see if that works. I was told this has happened to only one other jeep JLU in the USA. Has anyone had this issue and what was the fix?

In most cases it's one of the batteries. If the AUX battery starts to fail it will eventually draw down the main crank battery.

I had that discussion with the dealer and they are insisting that both batteries are fine.

The batteries need to be load tested separately, something they probably didn't do. I suspect either the didn't load test, or they did them without separating them. They may simply have measured the voltage of the system at rest and when charging, something you can do easily from your dash.

This is hilarious! Did they have a straight face when they said it? Was it April 1st?

There are countless threads with this very problem! Happened to me with BOTH our Jeeps.

One or both of your batteries is going bad and the fix is to replace them. Don’t accept anything less.

I've been driving mine with the same issue for at least 6 months with no issues. I haven't been to the dealer about it.

It’s your Aux battery. As stated, the batteries need to be tested separately. We had the same issue (I have a 2020 Ruby). Eventually the Aux dies completely and then it kills the main battery. It took about 3 months for the Aux to officially die and then it shot my main battery in about 24 hours. It won’t get better, so you might as well just get it replaced. Officially it is a free replacement if it dies under 3 years, but you have to get the dealer to sign off on that. So make sure they test the Aux separately and I bet they find it is not holding a charge.

Still waiting for the results of the newly installed IBS Sensor. It is now day 4.

Here is a copy of there latest text to me yesterday:

Hi from Deland Chrysler the sensor has arrived we have installed it now it has to go threw 2 4 hr of quiescent sleep time with no charge or loads of any type basically means the vehicle can not be touch for 2 four hr cycles so a total of 8 hrs with not being touched just giving you the latest heads up.

Same thing happened to me but both aux and main 12v battery shit the bed under 36 months and 20k miles. The dealership replaced both batteries under warranty and it's been fine since.

If you find yourself back at, "Stop/Start not ready, battery charging" make sure to press the button to disable start/stop. When I had this issue my Jeep decided it was able to stop the engine at a traffic light, but then wouldn't start because the batteries were too weak.

@Chieflet

Do research in regard to the IBS sensor on a JL .... (how to reset and how it learns) rather then taking the info in that text for granted.

Also.... ask that service dept. for copies of the load test result print out from each of your batteries.
IF they cannot give you those or show you the 2 separate printouts, your 2 batteries were not load tested.

Also ..... If you have never been to .... Do, stop by Porkie's of Deland BBQ in Deland. Tell them to make your pulled pork sandwich with "Texas Toast".... and be sure as one of your side order's, to get their "dirty taters". Porkie's BBQ is my go to BBQ joint in that neck of the woods.

Just curious is it the start stop function itself that kills the battery? When I drive my Jeep everytime I'm at a stop and it shuts off and then starts back up I feel like its not good for the starter and other engine components. Off, On, Off, On, doesn't seem good. What's the point anyway?

Maybe it's best just to turn the start stop function off all together? I don't know I definitely have been considering it. What's the pros versus cons?

The batteries you get from the factory just suck, doesn't matter if you leave the Start/Stop on or off.

As far as start stop itself, I've had no issue with is on my Jeep with frequent usage. It cranks so much faster than any vehicle I've owned before. It certainly helps save a bit of gas if you spend a lot of time waiting at red lights. If you live so far out in the country you've never seen a traffic light... then It wouldn't make much difference to turn it off I guess.
