So I have a dilemma I could use some opinions on. I have a Sport, and the more I wheel, the more I want to upgrade my front axle to D44 (rear already has D44), lockers and regear. But no matter what I do, there is a 99.9% chance we will sell the Jeep in 4-5 years. When it's time to sell, I can remove the rock sliders, skids, apex autolynx quick disconnects, winch and some other smaller things and sell those separately. The lift and tires will most likely go with the Jeep, but for a big thing like axles, regear and lockers, how much would you say it would help for resell value of the Sport?

I know with crazy prices the past few years and right now its hard to tell. But would you say I'd be able to get 10% more or maybe just 5% or 15% or what for a Sport with these upgrades vs a regular Sport? I'm not expecting to get near Rubicon value, but maybe somewhere in the middle?

Reason I'm asking now is because I might have found a front axle from my local club that comes already upgraded with everything at a good price. Might be too good a deal to pass up, but would like more info before making this decision.

Never assume mods add value.

Added resale value for mods on a Sport? Near zero, if not zero.
Never assume mods add value.
Ok yes, I completely agree with pretty much every mod, which is why I would remove what I could before selling.

But I find it hard to believe that, all else being equal (year, mileage etc)if a Sport is like $25k, and a Rubicon is $35k, this wouldnt sell for like $28-30k?Obviously I just made those numbers up, but just as an example.

About to do a rubicon swap on my sport. Having not know anything about jeeps when I bought I was happy with my sport choice. Now that I have a little knowledge (very little) I’d say if I saw a sport for sale with rubicon axles my first thought would be “bet that guy beat on that thing…pass” as opposed to stock axles and clean would lead me to believe it was more of a mall crawler

I would say go for it, get it like you want it so you can enjoy it…… whatever money you put into it should make it more fun and/or capable….. you’ll likely not get the extra money back, but who cares, that’s 4or 5 years from now……you only live once, and why sweat what might happen that far in the future…..Shit, I barely plan for the next day, lol, drives the wife crazy..🤣 I mean, isn’t that what we’re supposed to do, lose money on these things, that’s protocol…🤣

If you tell a potential buyer, that you changed axles, most will likely walk away from it. IMO...it will be seen as a negative.
Not to mention the Dana 44 that he has now probably isn't the same width as the Rubicon Dana 44 and it'll be very noticeable.

You might get that 10% if the right buyer comes along. It can happen, but it's also purely a matter of chance.

My take as a potential buyer would be that a Sport that's been modified as you've done has probably been used robustly, to say it politely. Otherwise, why go through the time and expense of adding all that hardware when the factory already sells the pre-fab version?

Forearmed with that knowledge, and particularly if the seller confirms that the Sporticon was indeed wheeled, I'd thank him for his time and look elsewhere.

In that example, most people looking for “Rubicon mods” would just pony up the extra $5k for a Rubicon to get matching axles, swaybar disco, 4:1 xfer case, etc on a Rubi.
You never know though. A sucker is born everyday.

Thats fair, I'd probably think the same thing. But I would definitely check it out and bring someone knowledgeable with me "just in case"...lol

In 4-5 years, how old will the Jeep be? You'd basically be looking to sell to someone looking for a trail rig at a discount.
