Well guys, driving the Jeep around the house for 30 minutes running errands deciding what to do, the check engine light cleared itself.
After 20 minutes of debate between the Jeep / Camry, we decided to go for it in the Jeep. Almost 5 hours on the road and so far so good !

has anyone heard of transmission failures on the JLU’s ? Mine is a 2021 with 7,000 miles... sat mostly the last 5 weeks as I was doing the bumper / winch etc... maybe hopefully I got the gremlins out ?

wish me luck ! No turning back now !

OP - Good luck and enjoy the Jeep.

The chances of this being an actual transmission mechanical problem are very small. The Jeep JL throws all kinds of weird codes (yes, many on transmission, power steering, shifter, stability control, etc), because of transient noise on the CAN C bus (that is the high speed bus that connects all the critical control functions). The green/white blocks you checked behind the glove box is just one of those junctions for the CAN bus. Sometimes it's those connectors. Sometimes it's loose ground. Sometimes a low battery. In my case it was a wiring harness chafing near the transmission bell housing.

If it happens only one time and never again, I'd not worry much about it. But if it starts to repeat, definitely look into it. It is not an easy thing to isolate. There are may posts here on CAN bus issues.

Again. good luck. I'd have made the same choice as you and taken the Jeep.

This is why I have a taser. You can easily clear the codes and drive on. There has been many times that we have been off roading and one of the Jeep throws a code. You know there is no real problem, reset the codes and Keep going.

Try being 50 miles off the road and have a code that pops up and puts the Jeep into limp mode and will not go over over idle because it is locking up the rear caliber, showing service the 4x4, service the shiftier. blab blab blab, reset the codes and drive it with zero issues. If it keep throwing the code over and over then be concerned. The fuse box in these Jeeps will have fuses work loose and cause electrical gremlins.

Or hire Matts Off Road to come way out in the desert pick up your Jeep, haul it to a dealer and have them reset the code.........
