They 100% for sure can program. Why the hell would they need to program if the ratio stays the same? I work at a CDJR dealership, and asked my service manager if it could be done.

I haven't heard of someone getting an update / flash and having their gear settings reset (Tazer excluded, of course).Dealership is trying to modify Sales Code on the Build sheet instead of simply changing gear ratio in the ECU. If OP ever gets any Updates / Flashes it would go back to stock gear ratio which would have to be recalibrate again. Same with tire size.
It's beyond me how someone would regear a diff , yet doesn't have a 100$ scan took to change diff ratio in ECU.
So they can charge an hour for no work? They 100% for sure can program. Why the hell would they need to program if the ratio stays the same?
I suppose in the event of doing a repair/replacement where they have to reset the pcm or something of that nature? I have a basic grasp on how that works but I'm no tech so I kind of get what they are saying. I'm going to call another shop. They 100% for sure can program. If someone modifies a gear ratio from 3.45 to let's say 4.56 themselves, Stellantis still has original build data and sales codes on their end. Depending on the update/flash it's possible for the dealership to flash the ECU and revert everything back to stock. Had this happen on my TRX that I retrofitted with Passive entry, lane keep assist , adaptive cruise, tire size. Went in for a recall and everything was wiped back to stock.I haven't heard of someone getting an update / flash and having their gear settings reset (Tazer excluded, of course).
Yes, that would be "horrific" in that they'd need to put those numbers in again.
I'm thinking OP isn't communicating well with the dealership due to asking for things like the build sheet to be changed.
I'm on Amazon now looking at the cable/obd adapterJSCAN will set the gear ratio "permanently" until the PCM/DTCM is over-written to change it. You won't need to leave JSCAN connected. Same with your tire diameter and all the other selectable changes JSCAN offers.
Right, should be simple but they are saying there is not a sales code for 4.56 gears for my model/trim, or they don't know where to look for itIt's the same as them changing tire size. They open an R.O. with the sales code for gears that way they tech can pull it up on the computer. They go through the options, update the computer and done. It would show on the build sheet 4.56 gears.
I'll definitely update! I'm looking at doing jscan now as it's the most cost effective at the moment. I really only need it for gears/tires so Im good with that over a tazerOnce you get this squared away I'd love your thoughts on the 4.56. That's in my plan on my manual JLU Sport as well.
Easy partner. When I called around for quotes and what was needed not one single person said "hey make sure you have this doohickey first" or I would've been prepared. Actually the dealership prior to the work being done, told me they could permanently program my gears after the work was done. So I proceeded with the information I had. It's beyond me how someone would regear a diff , yet doesn't have a 100$ scan took to change diff ratio in ECU.
The High Tide is a Sport S, and will have 4.56 gears.Right, should be simple but they are saying there is not a sales code for 4.56 gears for my model/trim, or they don't know where to look for it
How does this work if it is utilizing a vin from a different vehicle? The High Tide is a Sport S, and will have 4.56 gears.
Also, find a model on the lot with an XR package and see if they can ise the VIN from that to get the computer to accept the gear ratio change. If they don't have one on the lot, find one for sale online.
I was not talking about you, you were paying for a service which the "shop" did not fully complete. I was talking about a mechanic that will do the work but tell you to get it programmed somewhere else. It's not engine tuning. This takes 2 minutes to change gear ratio when you have a Bluetooth obd plug , 10$ JScan and 10$ Security Bypass Cable.Easy partner. I'm looking at my options on Amazon though.
