I've done a ton of searching on this topic and was wondering if anyone has seen a way to quickly set up the cargo space on a 2-door JL to sleep horizontally? I'm thinking maybe a cot or something, one that either hangs from bars or sets up about 1.5' from the floor (for storage underneath).

I don't want to remove the passenger seat, although I do wish it folded flat like some of the previous gen Cherokees; but pushing it forward clears a fair amount of space.

I like to keep my Jeep fairly lightweight & stock, so not looking for a big wooden build, just something that tucks away when not in use and doesn't weigh a whole lot.

Thanks

For a quick and lightweight setup for sleeping horizontally in your 2-door JL, consider these options:

1. **Folding Cot:** A compact, folding cot can be a good solution. Look for one that’s designed for car camping, as these are often lightweight and easy to set up. Some models can be adjusted for different heights, which might allow you to store gear underneath.

2. **Inflatable Mattress:** An inflatable mattress designed for back of SUVs might work well. These can be deflated and stored when not in use. Some models are specifically designed to fit around the wheel wells and can provide a flat sleeping surface.

3. **Hammock Setup:** If you’re okay with something that hangs, a hammock-style setup might be a good option. There are car camping hammocks that can be rigged to the headrests or other interior mounting points. Ensure it’s secured well and is comfortable for sleeping.

4. **DIY Platform:** A simple DIY platform made from lightweight materials like plywood or foam board can be used. You can create a platform that rests on the folded rear seats and extends into the cargo area. This can be built to fit snugly and removed when not needed.

5. **Customizable Shelf:** Consider a modular, adjustable shelf system that can be installed in the cargo area. Some companies offer systems that can be easily set up and taken down, providing both a sleeping surface and storage underneath.

These options should keep your Jeep lightweight and versatile while providing a comfortable sleeping setup.

My wife and I have done this but we built a raised platform to take advantage of the footwell space and more room with front seats fully forward and seat backs fully forward. We are not tall so it works.

Are you able to share any pics of the build?

LOL ChatGPT thinks that there are enough driving adults whose height is less than 5'2" to be able to sleep sideways in a jeep.

None... but it pays well.
I slept in front seat while reclined. It was comfy for me, while maximizing cargo area. I used a custom fit windshield sun shade and taped accordian type black black out paper to the windows. Temporary yet a cheap way to keep sunlight from coming in.
