Hi, last weekend I did cut one of my ko2s with a sharp rock on the sidewall. I am a bit concerned about it but not sure if it’s fixable, a replacement is needed or I can use it like this
Jeep Wrangler JL Sidewall cut with rock 1725974042445-km

If damaged, can I swap it with the spare? It has 20k miles and spare is new. I want to eventually replace them with 37 (this are oem 35 from the XR trim)

thanks!

I've got gashes at least that bad in mine. Up to you on how much risk you can stomach.

I'd be uncomfortable running three tires with 20k miles on them with a brand new / full diameter spare. Consider rotating the next set and getting ~20% more life out of them.

I did this at 6000 miles. I bought someone’s unused spare off Facebook Marketplace for $150.

If that slice extends only to the outer layer of the tire, I would continue to use it without worry. There is at least one more separate sidewall layer that actually holds the air. I’ve never had a problem doing so.

If you swap in the spare do it in the front matched with the tire with the most tread remaining. On the rear it will pull to one side like a MFer.

Looks like a slice that's not too deep, probably OK. You could use some tire repair compound to touch it up but it probably wouldn't hold.

I always do five-tire rotations as I want even tread wear, as close as possible, if I do need the spare. Lockers and steering components tend to dislike dissimilar tire diameters. Plus no need for one like-new tire and four used since I buy them in sets of five anyway.

Seriously? I would have thought having a mismatched tire on the axle that steers would be worse.

If I was in @jlrockfly's situation I'd have that spare shaved to somewhat match the others.
