You'll see 8th gear again and hold it much better. Improvements to fuel economy and acceleration. Basically you're putting your engine back into the powerband it should be in. Since you're in a Sport, it'll more than likely feel better than stock. There was a noticable fall off when I went from 33s to 35s in my Rubicon with the 4.10 gears. It'll be night and day for you.

So basically its something that needs to be done? And you'd suggest 4.56? Definitely want it to feel closer to that it was if not better.

4.56s with the auto and 4.88s with the manual are the two most commonly recommended ratios for 35s.

Jeep put the 4.56 in the XR with 35's so thats clearly what they recommend.

However that being said, even with 4.56 I find 8th isnt often used. So IMO do not do anything smaller than 4.56 and as above even consider 4.88 if you want a little more pep off the line albeit with less MPG.

unsavory

If you want to prioritize MPG over performance, go 4.56.

If you'd rather have the best performance at the cost of MPG, go 4.88.

Neither will get you anywhere near stock MPG. With 4.56, you may...may gain 1 MPG at best.

Yeah I don't expect to get back the MPG I did have with stock. I'm thinking 4.56 is what I need to go with.

4.56 should be great with the 2.0 in a 2-door.
I’ll play devils advocate. I run 35’s on my 19 sport s on the stock 3.45 gears with the 3.6L. I still hit all 8 gears under 72 mph which to me wasn’t enough to warrant a regear because stock tires I never saw 8th above 75mph. I do rock crawling but nothing extreme mostly blues and a light black every once in awhile. Just made a trip from NJ to OBX and averaged 19.5 mpg. I just pulled a couple vehicles out this morning stuck on the beaches here in OBX and 2 guys that had trucks told me they were surprised I could pull out a Yukon and a Explorer with no issues. I run a hikeit throttle controller as well and honestly in my opinion I see minimal difference or at least not enough to justify a regear. I have 45k miles on my rig and still love driving it everyday.

The only people who advocate for not re-gearing are people who have never driven a properly-geared rig.
Cool story. Like I said I’ll live in my bliss. Rig does everything I need. ✌

So I called the shop and he said I don't need to regear and that a $300 throttle enhancer should fix any sluggishness?
See post #22. Every one has an opinion. You’ll have to figure out what you want to do. Personally throttle controller works fine for me. I run a hikeit controller. There are a lot of controllers out there. Just do your research to decide which one is for you if you go that route.

Basically what you'll notice is that the Jeep will be turning different RPMs in different gears, and it'll feel torquier:

You'll be gaining ~500 engine RPM at highway speed to turn those 35s, which means there's more horsepower torque in use keeping things rolling. The Jeep will have an easier time maintaining speed up hills and will feel like it's getting more use of available torque. In 4L on the trail you'll notice that the Jeep is revving higher before forward movement occurs and that it generally wants to crawl more slowly.
There, I fixed it.
