Well when you said "not a lot of hills" and yet the Catskill mountains are well...mountains I had to double check, sorry it's nothing personal.

Honestly Jeep themselves use 4.56 gears on their factory 35 inch tire packages. I wafted between the two and thought I would be happy with 4.56s but I have decided that when I regear I'm doing 4.88s but I also have a manual. For a manual Rubicon that gets us the magical 100:1 crawl ratio and it is an optional gear ratio available for Rubicons for that reason. So both ratios are offered on Jeeps from the factory. Take that as you will.

It's a tough choice and I don't think you can really "go wrong" with either one. I think if you plan to stay at 35s the 4.56s will be fine personally.
Sounds good thanks. I appreciate it

Yes. It’s all adjusted. But now I have to pull the plug on 4.56 or 4.88 and then readjusted again. I guess
Get yourself a Tazer if you don't already, then you can do it yourself among many other things.

I have the factory 4.88's on 35's right now. I get about 16mpg.

Doing 37's next month.

I have driven a bunch of the XR's on 4.56 and 35's and I think if you want to stay on 35's I would do the 4.56's. better on the highway and better MPG.

I’m leaning more toward 4.56 right now. Thanks!

If you're at low altitude most of the time, 4.56 IMO. I'm using 4.88s with 37s and I like it a lot at sea level. 3.6L auto. It's fine on the highway for cruising speeds up to around 75 mph.

I wouldn't want any more gearing than 4.56 for 35s. In fact that felt like a little too much in the stock xr. I do tend to drive 80-85mph on the freeway so there's that.

Have you adjusted the computer for the 35s?
With 3.45s, I'd bet he doesn't see 7th that much, even with properly programmed tires.

I do see 7th that’s not a problem. 8th pops in sometimes when I’m driving like a grandma on a straight road.

Hello all…

I have a 2020 JL with 2 inch lift and 35s. I take it off-roading whenever I can but nothing too crazy, no rock crawling. I’m looking to regear my jeep but need some honest and first hand experience with which gear would be best for my rig. I also use it as a daily driver. Should I go with 4.56 or 4.88 for best fuel economy?
Thanks.
Yes, absolutely.

Exactly right. I’m on 35’s with 3.45 in FL so sea level and I see 7th all the time on the freeway. 8th when it’s flat with no wind or slight grade. 6th going up hill or headwinds. I’ve getting 15-17 around town 18-20 on the freeway but I keep it to speed limit +5mph.

BTW there is a 4.30 gearing option but the real world difference between that and 4.56 is marginal with the 8spd transmission.
