So I've had my JLUR for about a month and I've had the soft top back almost every day and plan to continue that way as much as possible. I live on the gulf coast so it gets crazy hot and humid in the summer; I bought sunshades for those months. But it dawned on me today that the couple of times I've raised/lowered my top I've done it standing inside the Jeep, which works great right now but won't when I have the sunshades on. And because that's also the time of year I'm most likely to have an unexpected downpour while away from home, I won't be able to just pull out the garage stepstool.

Anyone carry a small stepstool in their Jeep for times such as these? If so, how do you store it?

Yup, have that for my 4’10ā€ wife to get in and out of the front. Store it on the floor in front of the rear seat with the ā€œlegsā€ under the rear seat.

As for pulling the top back down, not sure what side steps/rails you have but that is where I stand to pull the top back…I stand on the one for the rear doors (I am 5’5ā€):

I always carried a Rubbermaid step stool in the TJ when my daughter was younger (she had some physical limitations). I'd put it down for her to step up into the Jeeps. It's like and easy to toss in the back, stable, and the perfect height. At one point we drilled a hole in the center and installed a bungee so she could pull it up into the Jeep herself and not have me wait there to put it away for her after she got in.

Now on the JLR I just the M.O.R.E. hide-a-step. Much better. I suggest a Hide-a-step might give you the 11" or so step up you would need on the side of the Jeep. You can step up from that on to the rear tire. for a taller perch.
When I was using Shrockworks sliders, they functioned well as a step for working on roof-rack tiedown stuff. Now since I removed the Shrockworks, I'm considering bolting on a fold down step for working on the roof-rack.

So, do carry a stool, but be on the lookout for other ways to create a perch.

Living in the Gulf and you talk about unexpected rain? I assume you mean in addition to the 3:00 daily five minute rain?

Hi Andi:

I appreciate that your inquiry regards step stools. If I may, let me take a step back to examine why you might need one: that obviously being the sunshade you describe getting in the way of interior "standing seat" closure..

A couple of months ago I wrote up a hack on how to get the Bestop retractable Sunshade of the JK to work on the JL. (Bestop has yet to make a retractable sunshade for the JL,)

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/bestop-retractable-jk-sunshades-fit-on-a-jl.100695/

Another suggestion along the step stool approach might be closing the top from outside using one of these door hinge steps.

No side steps! Initially I intended to add some but after a few days I decided that I prefer the rock rails. If I have enough struggles with the top I might reconsider. ??ā€ā™€

LOL! Yes. When we moved here 15 years ago my mom asked me if it rains every single afternoon. She had taken my younger sister to camp in the summers down here and that’s what she remembered.

Yep. I have a few of these (fit under front seat) and they hold me at 300lbs so no concerns for smaller folks.
So this will fit under the seat? I looked at a few on Amazon and none gave the folded dimensions, only the unfolded.

Ma’am, youā€˜ve got a lot of great advice here, to which I cannot add to. In the interest of HUMOR I am posting this old classic ?Also, my wife is quite short too.
