I was crawling around under my jeep and I noticed a little oily residue on both of my rear shocks and a bit less on one of my front shocks and I'm wondering if this is normal or a problem. A little internet searching suggests it is normal for shocks to "weep" a little. This is on a 2022 JLUR XR with 14k miles. I have attached a picture of one of the shocks. I'm thinking to just wipe them off and see how long it takes to get covered again.

No, it's not normal for shocks to weep oil. The rod seals are no longer doing their job. The leaking rate will increase with time, and sooner or later the shock will lose enough oil to function properly. Also, as the internal oil level drops, so will its cooling ability.

At 14k they should still be under warranty so go see the dealer. Insist on having them done in pairs, front or back.

Get it replaced. Mine didn’t even make 7000 miles and was replaced.

I've had all 4 shocks on my 21 JLUR changed because of leaking. Mine were a bit worse than what what your pic shows. The rears were done about 15k miles and the fronts at 25k miles. I didn't have any issues with the dealer replacing them. The rears took 2 trips because they had to order them. The fronts were changed same day I took in. Good luck!

I inspect my shocks (among other things) regularly. If/when I see them leaking, I will convince my wife of the need for new upgraded shocks. :CWL:

My 2020 front shocks started leaking around 6000 miles. I figured if I had them replaced under warranty, it would just be the same thing again, more leaking factory shocks. I went ahead and replaced all 4 with Fox shocks.

That's not a bad idea, but I'm thinking about getting a lift after the warranty runs out so I'll keep them stock for now. With 14k in only 6 months it shouldn't be too long of a wait.

Mine weep when I drive it off-road at decent speed. Getting them super hot seems to do it. If I wipe them down afterwords they stay clean on the road till I romp it again. The factory rubicon shocks are just not made for extended desert use.

I had 2 go at 30k. I didn’t care about being covered under the warranty because this was was in my living room.
