Sticking this here as it applies to a few different situations (mods feel free to move!)...

I did some searching and wasn't able to find much on running wiring -across- the engine bay. I'm wondering what people's experiences and opinions are. As I see it you can run something under the trim between the cowls (where the windshield motor is), you can just ziptie to the firewall, or (yet to be verified!) you can try to run with the factory wiring...it looks like there might be a plastic conduit at the top of the firewall on the JLs.

Update: there definitely is a wiring conduit, and I think this is the way i'm going to go....

Whenever I run wiring I always try to run it along the factory wiring. I haven't done it yet in my JLU (because it isn't here) but have done it in my JKU, GC, Corvette, etc.

Helpful video. Thanks for posting. I didn't know about that raceway running along the top of the firewall. I have some wiring running/ziptied just above that. I might have to go clean that up.

Wow, I didn’t know about that conduit. That will definitely clean up some of my wiring. Thanks for posting that video!

Wow, I had no idea. I had zip-tied wires right next to the conduit without realizing there were wires right behind it. Thanks!

UPDATE: installed the diode dynamics harness (OEM auxillary switch dual-output 2-pin wiring harness) and ran it through the conduit. There were a total of 6 10mm nuts to remove (including for the coolant reservoir bracket), then it was just a matter of popping the connections with a small screwdriver like in the video. it's a tight squeeze behind the battery but you can make it work without removing it.

This wiring runway was actually mentioned in a couple of forum posts back in 2018.

When I first read about it, I went right out to my JL and took a looksee.

Yes, tight working area where the PDC is, but it's doable.

I ran the wiring for my cowl lights through the conduit. Pics HERE.

Just now seeing this and yes, this is how I've run the wiring for some of my accessories – really appreciate the video (which would have been helpful when I was doing my mods)! 😆
