The four of us just got back yesterday, It was amazing . We had a stock Rubi with us so we had a slow time in some parts and had to pull some line for him but we all made it.

I just ran it June 27th. We took three days to run it. Good thing because we broke a rear driveshaft on day one and broke a front lower track bar mount on day two. We hit snow on the Tahoe side but it should all be gone now. I'd recommend having at least one ham radio in your group because guys from the Rubicon trail foundation are usually listening in and they have some spare parts staged at the beginning or at Rubicon springs. So if you break something they may have it not to far away and you can send a rig to get it. They also usually have someone at Rubicon springs that can do welding for you if you need it.

Jeep Jamboree's requirements: minimum of 37s, front and rear lockers, good tow points, and skid plates covering the fuel cell, transfer case and rocker panels.
My how things change. I did the Rubicon 15-20 years ago in a first gen Grand Cherokee with 4.5” lift and 33s, locked front and rear. I presume it’s much more challenging today.

I had a friend run it in a fairly stock CJ about 35 years ago. I think his tires were 26-28". He went with a group. I don't recall if it was the Jamboree. But I think they about dragged him through even then. From some of the videos showing large helicopters hauling rocks in, I get the impression the trail is "groomed" to a particular difficulty level. Anyone know?

Will it be passable that time of year?

Glad to see all these people having so much fun in my backyard. I seem to miss going with our local club each year because of my other events that I am involved in.

When we got to Rubicon springs on our third day they where setting up for the Jeep Jamboree for this next week. They also said the the trail is in the worst condition they have ever seen. Rubicon Springs is a neat place and if you get a chance to talk with the older man (already forgot his name)who owns one of the 7 shares in the place he is full of tons of history. He has been there a LONG time.

I was there 3 weeks ago for a 30th annual guys camping trip. We had the Red Fir group camp near the Loon Lake dam (start of the trail). I only went out to the slab to play on this trip, (drove there & back from East TN and the Jeep & trailer had to get me home).
I'd have to agree with a previous post that said this trail looks worse than it has in many years! (At least from my memory)
I ran this trail many times back in the 90's with my CJ-7. I lived in the SF Bay Area, and this was my back yard (super great memories). Did 4 Jeepers Jamborees, and several Sierra Treks (Fordyce Creek Tr.)
It's been a long time since I've been there, and a flood of good times came back!
Pic from this trip, and from the 90's...

My info is way old, but Jeep used to claim every model they put the “Trail Rated” badge on actually ran the Rubicon. There were lots of stacked rocks when I ran it and the belief was Jeep groomed (made easier) the trail to make it possible for stock Liberties and Grand Cherokees to make it through.

Gotcha.

My thought was that the Rubicon has been "groomed" to be more difficult as years pass, just to keep the reputation as the arguable "king" of jeep trails.
