Wait, I just had the best idea of all!

Drive it the way it comes and see if it's satisfactory. It'll save you a bunch of trouble and some money if it is.

To me Willys and Sahara are very comparable. Willys looks sportier and comes standard with the LSD; Saharas can be loaded to the gills.

A part of me would like a Rubicon for the swaybar disconnect and the 4:1 transfer case. But the reality is that I get a lot more use out of the LSD: it’s ridiculous how easy my Sahara is to drive in the snow!
And the 4.10 gearing.

I can only buy one . Looks like with same options about 6,000.00 difference . Not going to be doing much rock crawling .
Is a Willys a better fit for normal every day driving ? With higher gear ratios I would think the Willys would be able to get better gas mileage . Will be daily driver for the wife .
I'm leaning towards the Willys .
Asking for input to help me make a decision between the two models .
Thanks in advance .
Rubicon JLUR is always going to retain its value more then a JLU

I'm late into this thread but I have a question. I am torn between a 4 door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and a 4 door Willys. They both have great interiors and heated seats and all that fun stuff, but my main thing is will the Williys jeep get better gas mileage than the Rubicon? They both look great and they both have some pros and cons but the gas mileage in my friend's Rubicon is absolutely horrible so I'm thinking the Willys would be better. Does anybody know? I have test driven them both and like how they both drive. Also, I don't do off roading besides a few dirt roads here and there when my husband and I go kayaking. Thank you so much.

We average 22 MPG in our 2.0L Willys and absolutely love it, highway is higher obviously and city less. One thing to note, we swapped the BFG MT’s for BFG AT’s same size as factory.

What are you used to driving as far as mpg? 18-22 mpg is considered EXCELLENT for just about any Wrangler.

Is your friend's Rubicon modified or stock? Lifts, different garing, larger heavier wheels and tires can reduce mpg substantially.

I do not know of any Wrangler that gets great mpg compared to other vehicles. Not even the diesel 4xe. The shape, height, weight, drive-train are what it is and not good for mpg. The WILLYS should get slightly better mpg due to gearing alone. Some of that might be offset by the WILLYS MT tires which have slightly higher rolling resistance? Also the WILLYS MT tires are not as good as the Rubicon's K02 AT tires for daily driving, rain and winter driving. MTs are also noisier than the Rubicon K02 ATs. That can even get worse as the MTs wear more.

The 4xe would be your best bet thought if mpg was higher on your priority list.

The Willys is geared higher than the Rubicon . the Willys tires are smaller than the Rubicon . Those two differences will give the Willys an edge when it comes to gas mileage on the road . We live in snow country so a limited slip differential will be more important than locking axles in normal driving .

My totally stock '19 JLR 2.0T eTorque , 8-speed auto, used to get around 18-20 mpg combined with 75% city driving. I saw as high as 26 mpg on longer highway trips. That was with full A/C blasting. 26 mpg is exceptional. Especially when you take into consideration the Rubicon gears.

I have a stock 2022 JLR with the 3.6L eTorque and automatic now. It will be interesting to see how much my mpg differ between the 2.0.

I live where it snow a lot also. Probably not SD snow but we get our fair share. We had record high snow fall the last 5-6 years.

I have owned a few different Wranglers and all daily driven in winter. Owned a base '97 TJ Sport with open-diff, a 2015 JK with LSD, a 2019 JLR and now a 2022 JLR with Rock-Trac full-time 4x4. Non LSD JL Wranglers have Brake Lock Differential (BLD). I would not be too concerned or over think the differences between LSD and BLD. I think BLD works as well as LSD in most circumstances on a Wrangler. LSD might be a tad better on slippery surfaces like rain in turns? I drive accordingly in rain no matter what I have. To be totally honest they were ALL good in normal driving and in the snow. I would not say one was night and day better than the other.

The Rock-Trac full-time 4x4 is not needed but it is nice to have and very convenient. It's nice not having to throw the transfer case lever back and forth between slick and dry roads.

By FAR the most significant improvement is tires for winter driving. Dedicated winter tires will offer the most capability in winter.

I have already talked with the service manager at my dealer . The first thing we are doing is swapping out the stock mud/terrain tires to a falken wildpeak all terrain tire . The all terrain will be better suited to all weather driving conditions on the road versus the stock tire , besides the benefit of a lot less road noise .

All Jeeps are extremely capable ORV's. Rubi's are beasts. If you need Rubi's capability, or if you just want it because its cool, then get a Rubi. You'll have no regrets. And Rubi's have the highest resale (I think?). But if you're not using its capability, that's just more stuff that costs more, can break, and add weight.

I bought a Sport because I only do very light off-roading/easy trails, and no "rock crawling." I really just go off pavement (hunting lease) and light trails And I wanted to mod it how I wanted. I swapped out the crappy street tires that came on the Sport, and put on AT tires.

Willys is iconic. Kinda wish I had gotten a Willys. But I would be willing to bet that resale for Rubi, Willys, and Sport are very similar. Rubis are likely the highest.

My two cents...get what you want, for the reasons you want, and you'll have no regrets.

You answered you're own question when you said '' Not going to be doing much rock crawling .''
