Hello all.

I have a 2021 JLU with the Sky One Touch roof & Factory Rubicon wheels/tires.

The road noise over 55mph is terrible. I can’t hear myself think. I thought I could live with it but it sounds like a garbage disposal is constantly running.

I purchased a hardtop (not yet installed). after research it seems like that will help but minimally and that a lot of noise is coming from elsewhere.

im considering doing the full sound deadening, the armor lite mats, install the hardtop & linear.

I just don’t want to go down this path and it barely makes a difference. I’m not looking for it to be as quiet as a luxury car, it’s obviously going to be louder just based on the nature of the vehicle.

OR I just sell it and get something else.

Any input?

Check all your drain plugs and make sure one didn’t pop out. Also check the firewall plug (drivers side footwell up above where your left foot is). Are you on mud terrain tires?

I put in hot head headliners on my hard top. Helped with wind noise. Will go to an AT tire most likely after I’m done with my muds and hope to reduce a little road. But I feel you. It’s louder when my seats are down in the back too. I haven’t done any sound deadening under carpet though.

I have heavy and aggressive 35s and a hardtop and my road noise is not bad at all. I added hothead headliners and the sound assassin strips. It definitely seems quieter than my 2023 tacoma and my wife’s 23 4runner.

I think if you add the sound deadening measures you mentioned you will be pretty content.

If you have the K2 tires, it’s been my experience that they get louder the more they wear, especially if they are cupped.
i once drove a 2 dr Sport on a test drive that had street tires, pretty quiet.

Do you have stock tires? I've noticed that my old stock bfg tires were not bad at all. Switching to nitto 35s and especially 37s its loud on the freeway. My stereo is always at 13 or 14. The traditional hardtop was a good call but it will still be the exact opposite of a Cadillac. Just looking over reviews on Amazon most people did see a difference on sound deadening materials. I'm also looking into it. But it is a jeep thing having a loud interior.

Awhile ago there was a post about adding foam inside the freedom panels, but I don’t remember if it helped much or not. I m thinking of trying to add the foam over the summer.

Is it the tires? Perhaps try a set of all season tires. I could hear huge tire jeep's tire noise 3 lanes across but mine is very quite with all seasons.

Have you driven/ridden in another JLU? It could just be "a Jeep thing," or it could be something about yours specifically

Are all of your windows fastened correctly? Is the top connected correctly/thuroughly? Any potentially missing bolts, pieces, or parts?
Is the SOT correctly installed/functioning? (I know nothing about them, but you mentioned replacing yours.)
Do you have the full factory doors?

Does the sound seem to be "entering" from any particular place? I can generally have conversations with passengers, even with the soft top in sunrider position.

@cvcsmkr, as @azwjowner indicated, you haven't clarified what you mean by road noise. That's usually a phrase that indicates noise coming from tires, but you talk about things implying wind noise. Maybe it's other noises too?

My 392 on 37s with SOT is very loud on the highway. You can barely hear the stereo. Once I get to the trail, it quickly erases any dislike that occurred on the drive to the trail.

My 24 Rubicon X with stock 35s and hardtop is a lot quieter.
