Road Noise

I purchased a 2024 Rubicon with the SOT and it very quiet compared to my wrangler with the soft top. Driving 75 mph and I can easily converse with my wife. And it’s even better when I’m driving by myself listening to sport talk radio. ?

A full hardtop will make a big difference. Hothead headliners will make a decent difference. Sound deadening the floor and Armorlite floors will make a big difference. After doing all of that it will still be loud, but very acceptable IMO. If you have only driven luxury vehicles then it will never be quiet enough for you.

Hello all.

I have a 2021 JLU with the Sky One Touch roof & Factory Rubicon wheels/tires.

The road noise over 55mph is terrible. I can’t hear myself think. I thought I could live with it but it sounds like a garbage disposal is constantly running.

I purchased a hardtop (not yet installed). after research it seems like that will help but minimally and that a lot of noise is coming from elsewhere.

im considering doing the full sound deadening, the armor lite mats, install the hardtop & linear.

I just don’t want to go down this path and it barely makes a difference. I’m not looking for it to be as quiet as a luxury car, it’s obviously going to be louder just based on the nature of the vehicle.

OR I just sell it and get something else.

Any input?

Ha Ha Ha Ha. Welcome to Jeep Soft top world. OMG they are the worst. I had the full soft top and in Arizona we take our tops off in the winter and put them on in the summer (air conditioning). My soft top was so bad that I just basically gave up on trying to listen to music on the freeway, couldn't hear anyway from the flapping sucking the air in and out of my ears. The heat makes the tops even more floppy. I love my hard top, its not like my BMW, but it beats the hell out of that soft top......

Totally not my experience with Jeep soft tops at all. That said, the OP said he had a SOT.

When I lived in Utah I never noticed it, had 3 different Cj's. But I moved from New Mexico to Arizona and took My Wrangler. I think the 115 degree days made the top "floppy". If you kept a window down it wasnt so bad, but when its hot windows up air on.. I did love all my Jeeps regardless of any of their oddities..

Some asked about the tires, they are BFG’s AT KO2’s.

I really cant clarify whether it’s road or wind noise. The only way I can describe it is this noise is coming from everywhere. I cant listen to the radio, barely can carry on a conversation.

Im considering test driving a hardtop with street tires and take some DB readings @ highway speed.

I got the Alpine premium sound so road noise isn't an issue.

We had 2 Jeeps until last week when we turned in my wife's leased 4xe. Hers was a standard hardtop, mine has the SOT with a Hotheadz headliner. Hers had the stock 275/55-20 all-season tires and mine has 35" Toyo AT3s. Mine was considerably quieter inside, especially at higher speeds. The hardtop was very "echo-ey" inside and I much preferred driving mine. I do recall the headliner making a significant difference (especially with summer heat) when I added it, but that was very shortly after buying the Jeep so I had minimal experience without it.

I would imagine adding the headliners to a standard hardtop could make a big difference and possibly be a little quieter than the SOT with a headliner, but no way would I trade my SOT for it.

If you can't hear yourself think, either think louder, or stop thinking. Part of your brain wanted a Jeep, so listen to that while you're driving?

I can't speak for the experience with an SOT, but Jeeps aren't that loud on stock KO2's. Jeeps tend to be a little quieter with road noise because of their tall tires, and the fact that it's body on frame. They are a little more isolated from road noise/vibration than a unibody car on low profile tires.

If it really bugs you, dump it and get something else ?‍ Life's too short to be annoyed by a noisy vehicle.

How many miles on those KO2's and when is the last time they were rotated... if ever?

20k miles
I rotate every oil change. It is due for its next service.
