Currently in the process of replacing my factory Alpine sub with a JL Audio 10TW3 shallow sub and see the rear mounting bolt is threaded right into the magnet of the Alpine sub. See below…

For those of you who replaced their sub…did you drill and tap a hole in the magnet of your new sub (what are the consequences of doing that)? Or perhaps adhered a block of some sort to the magnet that you can screw into to retain the factory rear support? Or did you all just forget about the bolt and move on?

Pretty sure most folks who have added the 10TW3 just screwed it into the baffle. There is an alternative from Quart.

https://mbquart.com/shop/mobile/mob...jeep-wrangler-jl-tuned-oem-subwoofer-upgrade/

This is designed to fit the factory enclosure including the rear bolt and uses the frame to reinforce the enclosure. One thing to consider is that the enclosure is only 0.35 cu ft and the 10TW3 has a minimum recommended enclouse ot 0.55. I went down that road last summer but also found out that my amp setting were way too low FWIW. Good luck.

Good to know, thanks!

Is that MB Quart 400 watts rating the peak or RMS? It doesn’t say clearly in the specs. How does sound compared to the Alpine sub?

400 at 2 ohms and it is a big improvement over the factory sub. It’s designed to complement the Stage 6 but should work well on its own with a line out converter. I added this sub to my stage 6 install 3 months ago to replace my rewired stock sub with the 400.1. I am about to swap the PAC AmpPro out for a Rockford DSR-1 for the time correction and DSP.

I've made a few of those OEM to TW3 sub adapters, but I wouldn't recommend trying to drill/tap the back plate. At the minimum, you'll have shavings in the motor structure which will never be a good thing!

Good to know. I will definitely not drill and tap the new sub. Thanks!

Just curious what amp you used with the TW3 and if you wired for a 2 ohm or 8 ohm load? And just curious what your amp settings were at?

I’ll be a happy Jeeper if I can get the new 10” TW3-2 to sound like the driverside JL Audio stealthbox 10” TW1-2 (which is only 300 watts RMS).

@lashlee and @Terpsmandan :

A quick Google search recommends using a more powerful amp in a smaller sealed box. Maybe a 600 watt amp coupled with the 400 watt TW3 is what’s needed? What say you?

When I did the Quart install, I got an NA400.1 and installed it on the third spot on the amp rack and used that for my sub experiments. I started with a 10W3 and now realize that I wasn't pushing it hard enough. Then I tried a 48CWRT104 Kicker and the bolt circle was too narrow. In conversations with Quart tech, Dave told me about the sub they were working on and I decided to wait for it to be released. in the meantime I rewired my stock sub to work with the NA400.1 and ran that until January when the Quart sub was released. Sorry, I do not have an answer as far a more powerful amp working better for that size enclosure.

When I ran the 12TW3's in my last install I had 900 watts RMS per sub. When I build the box for the 10TW3 in my current car, it'll be driven with 400 watts RMS. Ideally you can run more power and allow the amp to run more efficiently, it's entirely up to you. You have to triple the power to "hear" a difference so it's up to you.
