So I don’t love topless.

I don’t want a seat belt tan line and I love my roof rack. So, during the summer I typically put trail doors on (haven’t yet) but THIS year, I removed my rear window.

I freaking love it!

Yes, I am aware of the carbon emissions warning and will only have this with trail or no doors. So, no problems there.

I am mad I haven’t done this before. Highly recommend!

It looks better than driving around with the rear window flipped up. I'll say that

No concern about exhaust gasses with the doors off, even with just the roof panels off.
Catalytic converter will take care of that, assuming someone hasn't stolen it, haha.

I think FCA/Stellanis/Jeep just patented a removable hard top rear window a month or so ago. Maybe this will be something we can expect in a future model release.
I've wanted that sisce I had myy old YJ!

It would be great I was on the fence between the sot and the dual top group just so I could run safari style ended up
Going with the sot I would how hard it would be to use / modify the same attachment that hold the rear side windows in to the rear window. There’s got to be some clever people on site that could figure it out

op. Have you put the window back in? How did thatgo?

So, the most important thing is you will need two people for the removal.

Remove the two covers up at the top.
We disconnected the hose, unsnapped the defroster and unplugged the wiring harness. (The hose will still be active, you could cork it, if you want but we didn’t.) Tuck the wires and hoses inside the compartments and then replace covers.

With the window up have some one support it while you unscrew the struts where they attach to the hard top. Then, remove the bolts for the hinges one bolt from each side and loosen the remaining bolt from each side so that they are almost all the way out but still supporting the hinge. Carefully and quickly remove the bolts one at a time while the window is supported by your friend. I have heard too many horror stories about the window shattering, so we were really careful to keep it level and supported while we were removing the bolts.

That’s it.
No need to cork the rear hose, just unplug it on the lower left size, it plugs itself... :)

No concerns for security? Doors you can put back on somewhat easily, but this is a more permanent move on your part.

This goes back on almost as easily as the doors (except you need two people). I have a lockbox attached to my rear door that I lock things in.
In years past I would remove the top around this time, but I really like having access to my roof rack and getting some sun protection. With the rear window removed there is none of that weird vortex wind pattern and pressure. The air flows right through.

i did that once on my 04 wrangler, when I accidentally closed it on something and it shattered. Took awhile to order replacement :)

Some vagrant broke my rear glass a couple of weeks after I got my 2018 JL.

Installing the glass is relatively simple, I did it myself, I guess 2 people would make it easier.

I personally would not be playing around with the rear glass, it's expensive($1,000+) to replace if you damage it.

They've been known to shatter when left open as they can flex and bounce around, which exerts forces that they're not designed to withstand.

This thread got me thinking about possibly trying to create a frame inside the perimeter of the glass with a quick detach solid strut that would extend down to the lower corner of the top where it meets the tub. The strut would keep the glass from bouncing up and down or flexing, and the frame (with a rubber cushion against the glass) would provide overall support. I haven't gone out and looked at the Jeep with this in mind yet, but with the half doors on, SOT open, and quarter windows removed that rear glass is the last thing in the way of really opening up the airflow.
