I will be replacing the OEM rear bumper with a steel rear bumper/tire carrier.
If you have a rear bumper with safety backup sensors...what does the bumper wiring look like? Is there just one multiconductor connector for the four sensors and rear license plate light..or did Jeep run multiple wires from the bumper to the body harness(es)?
How easy do you think it will be to pop out the OEM bumper sensors and put them in the replacement bumper ?

Update: Artec just released photos of their new steel bumpers. They have the sensor holes drilled through the bumper! So hopefully the wiring won't be that difficult toe switch.

All the sensors in the bumper are on a single harness

@Artec, would you happen to know who makes the 12-pin connector for the rear bumper harness to body harness?

Are you having the same male-to-male plate light connector issue that I am?

I put on an after market bumper and re-located my license plate with the Artec bracket. Yes, I'm trying to connect an LED light for the license plate and wanted to get a connector to build the wiring harness. I'm almost to the point of just cutting it off and installing a Deutsch connector, but I was hoping to not modify the factory harness. Maybe I should just cut the plug off the bumper and splice it to the new light harness.

That’s what I’m going to do. I put on the Mopar bumper which came with a male connector, but the plastic one I took off has a female. I’m just going to cut both connectors off the bumpers and splice in the female connector to the steel bumper.

I have the Rock Hard 4x4 Patriot bumper on the back (and front) of my JL. They have a higher receiver hitch and have a license mount and use the factory light for the license, use the factory sensors and has the mount for the trailer hitch wiring. I got the swinging spare tire holder and that keeps the backup camera located in the center of the spare. Here is a R.H. pic of the bumper. Also small things like a place to keep your high lift jack and a place to mount a CB antenna. It's got a lot to like....IMO. And it's hell bent for strong.....and has good departure angles.

ON mine....I adjusted the spare tire brackets to be about 8" lower than shown by RH. I kept some better vision out of the back window.....and did not give up any departure angle....unless you drive off of a cliff. I'd buy the bumper again. It checks all the boxes for me.

Did anyone ever find a harness that works do that we do not have to splice for the rear license plate lights?

I'm sorry but also happy to resurrect an artifact of a thread, but I believe I've found the answer.
I have no clue if this applies to the connectors found in the rest of the Wrangler, but specifically for the rear bumper, the end that comes off with the bumper is manufactured by Hirschmann Automotive in Austria

Model: FM26-806344542-H
Part Number: 806-344-542

I have yet to find a reasonable shipping link. If somebody stumbles upon this and finds a better way, let me know! I hope this helps somebody!

I think I found the pins and harness. Shipping is absurd being from the UK but I will post any updates.
