There are two heatshields inside of that flag nut you mentioned above inside of the control arm (covering the upper bushing/bolt). They could be loose and rattling.

I think i need to just to check all those! Any ideas what I can use to deaden the tin sound. I tried using electrical tape and JB weld muffler sealer.

It sounds like a tin rattle.... heat shield, muffler shield.... not plastic.
I'm sorry you're having this issue, but could you move this to another thread? This isn't what this thread is about. We're all having engine ping.

Another Australian JL with this problem, 5600klms now and had it from new. Pinging at light load/throttle when off-road, haven't heard it on road yet. Have always run 98oct fuel. I do see high oil temps (100'C) but water temps are pretty good.

LOL yeah I'd suppose Jeep really doesn't need another fire from tape or sealer on a heat shield. Don't try to insulate a heat shield!

It was a temporary small ball of electric tape to determine whether it vibrated.
But yes I was worried about that as well.

Well my Jeep was at the dealer for 2 days straight. They claim its not the engine or transmission but dont know what it is. They heard it when I did a test drive inside with them but said they were unable to recreate it :-(.

My Jeep continues to make the noise which I heard as soon as I drove out. I don't know what else to do. They said that they're positive its not the engine or transmission and that they couldn't find anything loose.
Someone should make a petition to sign for this so they can actually see its a real problem and not an imaginary thing.
Iā€™m so glad to have found this thread! This exact dialogue has gone on with my Dealer (Riehl, Romeo, Mi). I have multiple cases open with FCA Care Specialistsā€”it does nothing!!! Iā€™m bringing your thread with me into the shop!!! For now, this is a big step.

I called FCA back letting them know I didn't get a resolution from the dealer and that running 93 mitigated it. That was about a month ago and still haven't heard anything back from my case manager.
Same here - been working the Care Specialists for 2 years - not helping!

I listened to the video and that doesnā€™t sound like engine knocking at all.
I would bet is not the engine but something related to the torque converter or transmission.
Any of the ones having this noise are manual transmission?
That would help start narrowing down. (I have a manual with 0 issues, Iā€™m here for support only lol).
If both manual and auto have the same issue then I would say exhaust related.
Yes! I have a 2018 manual Jeep Rubicon. I have the exact noise captured in the clip. My service techs are stumped. Heat/higher temps definitely bring it out bc Iā€™ve noticed it 3 summers and canā€™t get answers. I have a ā€˜99 manual Wrangler Sport- never heard this once!! Driving it now while the Rubicon is in the shop for an EGR valve.
