Approximately four days ago, I began to hear the same rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. So far the Jeep has been running normal; however, the sound is anything but normal. Like others have noted, the sound can be heard from inside and out and is louder while accelerating. I’ve contacted the dealer and have a service appointment on Thursday, I hope I’ll be able to get some answers then.

They believed that there is a big possibility that the valve itself fail by getting stuck open and was causing the misfire. So far this is day 2 and the engine is running great with no pre-detonation heard!
Is this still working for you?

Hi guys

So the misfire came back a few weeks ago I have try everything without good results so finally about 3 gas tanks ago I found a long term expensive solution, it has been 3 tanks of premium gas (91 octane) and a bottle of Lucas octane booster (3 real points of boost) on each tank, since tank 1 the misfire completely went away, I know that is an expensive solution but I rather spend an extra 8 dollars a tank (booster cost) and wait for a possible FCA solution than have the dealership keep my Wrangler for weeks trying to figure out what we already know what the problem is. So, this proves is that the air/fuel ratio tune is definitely too lean. @JeepCares FCA needs to take action with the current Tuner and update the tunning ASAP, I'm pretty sure if this doesn't get fixed, it will cause future engine problems to a lot of Wranglers JL 3.6

I have reached out to JeepCares about this and no reply. One thing to consider is a catch can. I know that even the mention of a catch can can get people fired up with a debate, but I was shocked by how much my CC trapped in a short amount of time. It made me wonder about the degradation of fuel quality and octane rating.

Do you think running a higher octane may work?

Thank you Lydia, but I sold the Jeep because of this issue. If your department reports to someone who has access to product development and engineering, I would suggest sharing this with them.

Although I know your position is to help individual owners, I would also suggest to you and FCA to use this site as an ongoing product survey. Free of charge and quiet comprehensive.

I think it may be possible. I never had pre-denotation on my Jeep. But I also ran a CC. I tried higher octane several times, but saw no difference in performance. However, I would never know the true performance of the motor unless I did a data log.

I don't have the pre-detonation on my Jeep either. Just wondering if maybe running higher octane would help with some of these issues.

Yeah, I don’t know. I think if you are not having issues, don’t waste the money on higher octane fuel.
