Assuming I could safely do it, do you think that a device that allowed the Freedom Panels to be flipped back on to the back of the hard top when opened, or maybe angle from the door line to the center of the JL (like the doors on a DeLorean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMC_DeLorean#/media/File:Delorean_DMC-12_side.jpg) might have any interest, and/or it would get more people to open their panels who normally wouldn't do so for lack of desire to store them in the cargo area?

Maybe not? I'm looking at this as a DIY others could copy, not for profit. No way do I want to insure Freedom Panel flying saucers on the highway!

Thanks.

It might be easier to design something that bolts into the position of the freedom panels (like the sun rider) but slides back like an aftermarket sunroof.

Thanks. Tried it. Used ball bearing Draw slides. Failed ….badly....

The problem is I want a no holes installation. : - )

I can’t believe that none of the rack manufacturers have designed anything to hold the freedom panels. They’ve only had since 2007. Maybe now that the rain gutters extend all the way back...

Did it fail only because the holes you had to drill leaked Im guessing?

It failed because I would have had to drill holes that I didn't want to, and otherwise didn't drill. : - )

I like accessories that can be taken off and leave no footprint, or if must be drilled, like @lodoffroad's upcoming roof rack, are drilled in hidden places.

There was a vendor at Bantam Jeep Festival last year in June who had invented a system that applies hinges to the freedom panels so that you could just flip them back onto the hardtop. I'm sure that he'll be at the Festival this June
