Power Steps PRO/CON

Looking to add steps to my 2024 Rubicon. Trying to decide if the extra cost is worth getting the power steps verses the normal ones.

The wife’s Wagoneer has steps that are nice and allow the whole fam to step in easily. Some that I’ve seen for the Wrangler are quite narrow in comparison which isn’t ideal for young children but the one you posted looks great.

We’ve had a couple of incidents where the steps stayed deployed upon locking instead of retracting and took some key fob/proximity sensor magic to sort out.

If you do go off-road I can’t imagine those steps will enjoy the abuse.

I like them on our pickup truck. They open lower and farther out than fixed steps, making it easier for young kids and our dog to get in and out. They also tuck up nicely when driving. However, depending on your offroad needs, someone else would have to answer how resilient they are.

The Rock Slide Engineering steps would be more durable for off-road conditions. They also have the side benefit of improved stone and mud protection to the doors and hinges.

If they are not likely to get thumped while off-road, then the Amp ones would be fine.

A fixed step with any significant (helpful) drop risks hang-up or damage if the off-roading gets very aggressive.

It really depends on how much ground clearance you will need and whether you're going to rock crawl. If no rock crawling, some AMP retractable steps will work.

I like the oem as it prevents rocks from hitting my hinges.

Rockslide Engineering are really the only power steps that should go on a Jeep. The are steel and made for off-roading. The Amp Research power step and lightweight aluminum and will easily bend and dent on any light touch of a off-road log, branch, rock. Amp Research Power Steps belong on a street trucks and vans.

I prefer the powered step vs stationary, makes it easier for my shorties to get in. Had amp xls on for 5k miles worked great (for sale now if your interested) and put rse on to be more durable off road.

I installed Rough Country's powered steps and and they work and look great. Easy to install and were $995 which was a lot cheaper than AMP and Aries.

$35 on Amazon, for my wife, for her Jeep. There‘s a piece of 550 cord attached to it, for when she is by herself.

She says she only needs it to get in, and uses only gravity when she gets out. Both of our Jeeps also have rock rails with integrated steps. This step is so she can reach the rock rail step.

100% agree with this. On a previous vehicle I had the power steps the OP posted a picture of at the start of this thread. They are FRAGILE and will be ruined by even the slightest contact while offroad. RSE step sliders are much more durable but can still be rendered inoperable if you do something stupid enough.
