The two closest dealers to me (Fairfield County, CT) both claim they have no body shop or ability to deal with corrosion. Called Jeep and they said I have to work with the dealers. I'm in a catch 22. 36 months warranty expires in 2 months.

Can anyone suggest a course of action to get things going? My corrosion is only around the 2 hood hinges - bubbling.

Thank you.

Mine didn't want to take it either, under warranty. No paint booth excuse. I asked what they did when someone brought a wrecked vehicle in, for them to fix. They said they take it to a local paint shop. I asked them to see if FCA would OK it, they put in the request, and in the next day or two it was approved. They local paint/body shop did a great job.
But, the main thing is you have FCA/Stellantis start a request, and get it on record, while under warranty.

This is key. I found a Jeep dealership about 50 miles away that repaired the bubbled paint on my hood edges and bottom doors. Came out flawless. Year later my hinges had the same thing. When I contacted the dealer that did the initial repair, they said bring it in. Within a few hours they were approved to do ALL repairs.

As a side note, I was told that due to the number of hinge issues they are replacing them with new ones. Apparently they are made from a different alloy that won’t interact with the door metal. I would have thought a UNHW membrane would have sufficed but nonetheless if you are having issue you MUST go to a dealer to at least have it looked at, acknowledged and documented.

Update:

The Jeep dealers in my area are inundated with various Jeep models needing repairs. I think it's a combination of issues including continued shortage of tech staff and new Jeep models having a lot of problems lately. A service writer in one dealership told me they have a ton of brand new Jeep Grand Cherokees and Wagoneers coming in with electrical problems. My daughter's year old Renegade is also having a computer/electronic issue currently and was told she has 30 cars ahead of her and likely won't have her car back for over a month.

Because of all that It took me many calls to several dealerships, several not very helpful chats with Jeep Cares and over four months to actually get an appointment for them to photograph the Jeep and submit a claim for repaint/part replacement. The tech washed my car and went over the whole jeep. He found some defects that I missed. They are asking Jeep to replace the hood, pay for repainting the hood and door hinges and potentially replacing the door panels.

I am told by the dealership, and my Jeep Cares case manager confirmed, that it may be a year before I get my Jeep's paint fixed. My warranty is up this summer but Jeep Cares confirmed I am now locked in for coverage of the repairs no matter how long it takes.

2018 JLU Sport, 40k miles. No issues.
2022 JTOD, 30k miles. No issues.

Both are white, both have been ceramic coated by myself, both get washed every 4-6 months, and both live in sunny California. I even cleaned the tires on the Wrangler last year for the first time.

My JLUR is Silver.

I am no paint expert but my understand that it's not related to external corrosion but related to either bad surface prep and/or defective paint. My bubbles are all completely encapsulated with no external preforation of the paint so it's coming from the inside out. I don't think washing and external coatings would prevent it but I could be wrong about that.

My 2021 Sting Gray in FL with 30k miles has bubbles on leading edge of hood, both hood hinges, 3 of 4 doors hinges and a tailgate hinge.

it’s going in for repair / paint tomorrow. They are taking it to a local body shop that does the - 2 per week every week until the backlog is cleared. They are getting me a loaner or rental for a week until mine is done.

I’m hoping it comes out good as new.

You’re absolutely right, it doesn’t. But I still don’t have any issues with my paint. ?ā€ā™‚

Mine is a 2019, Ocean Blue. I was told that the bubbling is due to the aluminum they are using. All if my hinges need to be replaced, doors and hood need to be painted. I have also noticed that the hinges on the hood are peeling.
I am so disappointed and concerned that this will be a never ending issue.
I love my JEEP and hope this fixes it.

I had this happen to my ā€˜20 Ruby. I have the Bikini Pearl paint and noticed the bubbling on the hood edges and door edges/ himges. I had them repainted like new and was told they used a different primer the factory issued. I was very happy with the result.

Several months later, I noticed paint around the hinges that hadn’t had issues were now bubbling. This time, they ordered new hinges for all the doors and said Jeep had finally addressed the issue. I can’t recall if he said the new hinges are a different alloy or they are using a UHMW membrane in between the hinge and door. In any event, seems Jeep realized this was something that couldn’t be swept under the rug.

Sounds right. My Jeep is getting new hinges and paint.

I'm still not convinced it's the hinges, though they (Jeep) have redesigned the part. Many have the issue on hood edges and door bottoms no where near hinges. Also I believe the tailgate hinges are a different metal than door hinges due to weight of spare tire (but could be wrong in this). I just wish Jeep could issue a formal explanation of root cause and their fix (if it exists beyond buying time to survive the warranty period). Would make many of us feel better vs them internal releasing TSBs with no explanation on cause. So far our 2020 almost 60k miles Sahara (black) has been in twice, first time most of the hinges on door/tailgate, second time a year later door edges, we have one year left on warranty and Jeep's silence on the issue isn't confidence inspiring.
