It's nice having a healthy battery. ❤

About to have a 5-day weekend sometime next week, and I'm going to be stuck at home the whole time unable to leave, so I have two really large holes I want to drill in my Wrangler. LIKE REALLY LARGE HOLES!!! I'm talking 4-in holes!!! Big motherfuckers!!! In a location that will let you down something awful! 😉:CWL:
5 days? Why don't you come get the bumpers & winch I just posted on OfferUp. You'll have plenty of time to do something nutty with 'em.

Looks like over the last 8 years it's increased about 600% in price. :headbang:

Hey, it could be worse. :)

One of the motorcycles that I own uses a $3 spacer (it looks like a metal o-ring) on one of the axles. A worn spacer will have witness marks on it, at which point this wear will manifest as pulsing, identical to a warped rotor, when braking at almost any speed.

There's zero mention of the spacer, what happens when it wears, or the owner's responsibility to periodically examine it, in the otherwise comprehensive Owner's Manual. And so there are any number of tales of woe from guys who aim the parts cannon at their bikes, installing $150 rotors but who then still experience said pulsing, up until they get lucky and discover -- usually via the related discussion forum -- the need to replace a part that costs 2% of the rotor that they didn't yet need.

Not sure if this guy was just not paying attention or maybe he was trying to assert dominance thinking I was going to stop for him. Dude turning right out of his apartment this morning on the frontage Road on my way to work. Frontage Road speed is 55 so I'm going 55, dude just turns right into my lane so I had to do an evasive maneuver at 55 miles an hour...
An almost identical thing happened to me when my JLU was still new.

I was traveling on a four lane A road (two lanes in each direction, with a median dividing them) with a posted 50 MPH limit. The light at the intersection that I was approaching had just turned green, so I was accelerating, gently, from 40 MPH or so since I had already lifted my right foot for the red light.

On my right, a Land Rover was exiting a car wash bay and headed toward the exit...and the inattentive driver kept on going, right until I twigged that he wasn't going to stop. I pressed my brake pedal and the horn button with equal vigor, at which point he awoke from his reverie and slammed his own brakes.

Having avoided a collision, I decided to keep my social finger to myself and just got back to the task of driving.

$60 for this gallon of ATF with the AmSoil membership discount, you better believe I did my research! ;)

1000001286.jpg

Seems to be like most things AmSoil makes, they take whatever the standard spec is from the manufacturer, and do it better.
Nope. Oh sure, that's what they would like you to take away from their statement, but that's not what they said. They had some tests run by a third party who reported the Amsoil product exceeded the ATF+4 specification for oxidation. Sounds good! However, a brief glance at the abstract for the SAE technical paper documenting the development of ATF+4 (https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/982674/) shows that there is (not surprisingly!) more than one specification for this fluid:

"The bench tests included those that pertain to oxidation and shear stability, anti-wear, frictional properties and torque converter shudder."

OK, how did the Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic stuff do in severe service on these other tests? . . . uh, no idea! But I do know that if it met or exceeded the ATF+4 spec on any of these other tests they would have been very sure to tell us all about it! Which, in turn, tells us that it did not meet those other specifications.

If Amsoil wanted to provide assurance that their fluid meets the specs, they could have gotten tested, approved and then paid the fee to get the seal. Like every other company that wants to play in this space. But they didn't. Either because they couldn't meet the specs, or because they didn't want to pay the fee or (my theory) both!

Will you experience any problems using Amsoil instead of ATF+4? Probably not, and I know that in your case your warranty concerns are a distant memory , so rock on, but be advised of what you're actually getting for your money.

Another Texas guy!? Where are you at in Texas?

Are they donations? If their donations I'll come take them off your hands! 😉
I'm in San Antonio. Would you believe I put up 2 bumpers with a Smittybilt 12K winch for $575 OBO. Zero interest. Tight asses lol
So yeah, if I don't get any takers in a few days, I'll hit you up.

Why you want to drill big holes in your wrangler bro? Is that for a new apocalypse diesel exhausted system or something?

Maybe 4" hole cutters were on sale?

Like I said, it's going to be very underwhelming. You guys will be disappointed in me. :crying: :CWL: 😉

On the flip side I just ordered some new front turn signal lights for my grill. HINT: they're not designed to be turn signal lights, but that's what I'm going to use them for!!

Between this and the large hole mistery… I’m starting to think you plan on putting pot lights somewhere on the poor Jeep’s body and use them as signa lights!

...will be getting bolted to my wooden bumper for now, but that involves drilling a rather large hole in my wooden bumper.

My current turn signal setup...

Oh ok, you just need a 4" hole saw and you're in business.

Only my second time (truly) off-roading and this is the damage I've done...

Passenger side has matching Rock rail step damage, but I'm not going to go lay in the grass to get that photo. :CWL:

Probably won't go too crazy from this point forward until I get an engine oil pan skid, which I would like to get before December, but we'll see. 🤷‍♂️

I can't wait till I get our new house with a shop just for my vehicles. Not sure if I'm going to dig into the ground and design a pit to get underneath the vehicle and still stand up or if I'd invest in a hydraulic lift. Either way, that bit of dirt down there is after I cleaned off the undercarriage. I really need to get down there one day when it's a little cooler hose it down and give it a nice soft bristle brush scrubbing. For now I just don't feel like getting soaked trying to clean off the underside of the vehicle.
Nothing wrong with a few war wounds bro 👍

I think this has more to do with the fact that I'm running 35s and the computer thinks I have 32 still. Now that I am running the factory tune for a minute, I'll probably have to get that changed in the computer here pretty soon. #jscan

1000001977.jpg

Definitely one of the benefits of the factory tune, this thing he hasn't moved in 2 weeks. Looks like I'm back to 2000 miles between DEF fill-ups.

1000001983.jpg

When I'm hanging out at my normal speed in the slow lane, the factory tune does fine. However when I try and get it up to 80 / 90 mph with the factory tune, it's like grinding gears trying to get it to stay there. It doesn't want to do 80, it wants to do 60, it barely wants to do 75. However my stage 1 will happily sit at 80 to 90 mph with zero pushback. Also I can spin my tires when I want. That's probably not a good thing though, for my tires!

Though not to say that the stage 1 tune gets the EcoDiesel even close to what the 392 is capable of, it definitely feels like it handles a lot more like a 392 with the stage 1 tune.

I'm not saying I'm going to switch back to the stage one right now, there's a lot of benefits to keeping the factory tuned for now, but there may come a day in the future when I just pop in here and I'm like "stage one is back in!"

Regardless of when I pop my stage one back in, I will be carrying around the factory tune at all times. Whether it's installed in the vehicle or not, it is a bit of a safety net at this moment. 🤷‍♂️ :like:
It doesn't feel like it has enough power to cruise at 90, or something else like the transmission isn't using the right gear?

Transmission issues could obviously be attributed to the mismatch in tires / computer settings. You'll need to do that even if / when you reapply your tune, so don't wait! Ditto for your MPGs. You're getting better mileage than the dash reports.

2k miles between DEF seems low. I'm guessing I'm in the 4k range, but I haven't kept track of it.
