Any pictures you can share?

I used the Mopar ones and then covered the scuff panel areas not protected with 3M. I don’t like the aftermarket versions because they wrap up onto the entry lip creating small seal gaps that would allow water from a deep crossing or even road dust to seep in. Not a big deal I suspect....but....

i was looking for the minimal thickness, some scratch protection, and some grip even when wet.

went to the Marine Hardware Supply and picked up some grip tape meant for use on boat decks.
trimmed it for exactly the coverage i wanted, and got something that's not so thick as to cause issues with seals not sealing.

I would not install any brand door sill guard that goes over the lip...

Sure, protection of the lip is achieved.... but you are sacrificing the seal at the lip. You are
also lets say, negatively impacting the door fit in essence.

Without the seal in the that area you risk air and water entry and all the negatives that go hand in hand with that.

Best bet is to buy 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film and place it over the whole sill area to include the lip. Now, install OEM Door Sill Guards or similar lip-less guards over the vinyl film.

I think you nailed it on the best approach to take and I definitely agree with you about not covering the lip.

As to which film to go with is there a much difference between one to another?

I would just go with the normal 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film. Sure when @Rhinebeck01 gets online he can answer.

the mopar ones leave a lot of the paint exposed. the rigged ridge guards seem to have the best coverage.
This issue with the door sill guards like Quadratec and Rugged Ridge is that they affect the door seals. If you shine a light through the bottom crack of the door from the outside, you can see the light in the inside. When wheeling if you drive through a water crossing, etc, water may come in through the gaps.

It’s really negligible. The xpel just has texture. I got it cuz my jeeps are black. 3m clear may be better for other colors.

Going with the clear tape and then over top with the factory style door sills.

Those only come in a two-door?
Both 2 and 4 door, just do a search. I have them on my 4 door. You can see them in this picture.
