So I did actually search and didn't find anything much specifically discussing the merits of adding one of these to the 2.0T engine. I'm 58k miles into the adventure and really don't notice any loss of oil BUT clearly they make these things for a purpose right? I've read plenty about the v6 engine using them and having success in catching blow back. I just don't know if this is worth the money and wanted some thoughts

This is one of the ones I've had folks mention on the V6, they make one for the 2.0 now

It helps keep the valves clean. Direct injection engines tend to get more carbon buildup over time in the valves and piston head. This helps.

Took 2 months to get but after 500 miles I have about a tablespoon of oil. No gas smell.

I run one on my 6.4 challenger as well and at 1500 miles I had 3 tablespoons of oil.

Your report is literally first one here showing something more, than a smear of oil on the bottom of the catch up tank.

I had a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7L to which I installed a catch can almost immediately after purchasing. Than can would collect about 1/4 cup of oil every 2K miles without fail. Sold the truck after 6 years. Of course, like the 3.6L V6, that hemi was multi-port injected, so it benefited from the cleansing effect of air/fuel mixture across the back of the intake valves... unlike the direct injected 2.0L.

Did I need the catch can on the hemi?
Probably not.

Gas Direct injected engines?
Yes, I'd run a can, as well as top tier gasoline.

Not sure why. I've ran catch cans on any DI engine I've owned and they've all collected content of some kind. As temperatures drop I seem to get more watered down results but when temperatures are high, more concentrated oil.

I know that definitely what was caught would have gone into the PCV intake and eventually made it to the back side of the valves. After 50k miles i could definitely see the build up occurring.

With PFI it's not much of a factor as stated because the fuel cleans the valves but oil in the combustion chamber can effect octane levels.

My better half had a Sport JLU with the 2.0L turbo and at nearly 100,000 miles I didn't see any significant carbon buildup on the intake valves (Penzoil Platinum synth oil, 3000mi intervals, 87 octane its entire life). Needless to say I was surprised because my Audi GDI engines were filthy at just 15,000 miles with the same maintenance regimen?‍♂.

So are you guys running two catch cans on the 2.0, one attached to the crankcase breather hose and intake, and another attached to PCV valve?

Actually had more than that when we sold it. Technically, 34 oil changes in 100,000 miles per my Excel log; I did the old school 1000 mile change then at every ~3000 miles therafter. It's about $36 and a half hour of my time for each oil change.?‍♂

hell I guess if you enjoy it, go for it, but that’s a bit more often than necessary.

Define "necessary"; is it what the mfr recommends (a catch all average)? It's very cheap "insurance" with DI engines where I've been burned by Audis and others. That, and she drives her vehicles hard.
