My '21 gets less than 5000 miles/year, so I change the oil at 6 month intervals.

My jeep was bought on 04/15/2025 with 6 miles on it. As I sit in the parking lot at work reading this it’s at 4513 and 42% OLI. I called the dealership to schedule my first of 3 free Jeep cares oil changes and tire rotations because “warranty” and they said if I come in for my free oil change too early I will get charged. They usually wait until 10k miles to do the first oil change in new vehicles. I said I take my Jeep offroad on the weekend and sit in crap traffic. She said that’s just the way they do it. I do t want to void my warranty by doing my own oil change. 10k miles is NUTS.

Folks, It only costs $34.98 (Home depot and autozone). Do it yourself, at least you know it will be done right.

This.

I change my oil too often, I'm absolutely wrong, and wasting my own money, and I'm ignoring good data that says the oil *should* have a lot of life left in it. My Jeep is mine, and I do what I want.
I change my oil every 5,000 miles, differentials at 15,000 miles, and manual transmission and transfer case at 25,000 miles. If the extra cost keeps from having much bigger issues then it is worth it. If not, I still feel better knowing I have newer fluids in the Jeep. I do not lose any oil over the 5,000 miles between changes and have 132,000 on my JLUR in just under 6 years. The Subaru my daughter drives consumes an extra quart every 3,000 miles, so there is that.

So do the oil change yourself, leave the indicator as is, and then bring your Jeep on for the oil change at 10K miles.

Assuming the filter and oil is up to minimum specs it’s not possible you void the warranty by changing oil early.

1. Engineers are not smart. Most of them are average corporate ladder climber and do whatever their boss tells them to do, and write reports on whatever computer simulation yields. Smart people wouldn't stay in stalantis. lol
2. This is not about smart, is about knowing the cause. Especially behind the scene CAFE plays more roles than technical optimization.
Sure, 401, healthcare, golden parachute, I'm sure the sucky engineers go for that:)

That said, 3-4,000 are my oil changes, just like dino oil was back in the 70,'s. We've come a long way baby. Not.

Apparently the girl I talked to had no idea what she was doing and the service manager called me and said yes please bring your jeep you take off-road on the weekend in at 4500 miles we’d be glad to change your oil for free! Apparently I got lifetime oil changes which I don’t see on my contract but it’s in their system so I’m not gonna fight that one! And he said they don’t recommend going 10k between oil changes but if you bring your vehicle in before 10k your warranty won’t be void. If you go over that your on your own.

I had them change mine at 500, 1500, 3000. they dont care, unless its lifetime oil changes.

My wife's JLU with the 3.6 gets about 4K miles until the OLI is around 40%, same for mine with the 2.0T. We do a lot of stop and go driving, and relatively short trips (around 10 miles each way to work). The oil was pretty dark in her JLU when I changed it Sunday.

By contrast, the 3.6 in my son's JLUR does long highway commutes (30 miles each way) and the oil was still golden brown when he changed it. Pretty sure he gets more than 4K miles by the time it goes down to 40%.

I'm guessing you don't have a diesel. Or maybe that oil filter is a cheap clone?
MO-349 is the Mopar filter. If you have the diesel and are complaining about oil change cost…that’s a different issue.

find a different dealership....but regardless you will not void your warranty by doing your own oil changes...document and keep receipts....use jeeps dashboard site to track your oil changes...
