My "Change Oil Soon" light turned on this week and showed oil life at 5%. Previous oil change was 2000 miles ago. I usually change every 5000 miles. My driving habits haven't changed in the last 2000 miles. I do a mixture of highway, city streets and offroad.

Is it possible I burned through my oil life that quickly? I always reset my oil indicator after I change my oil but can't 100% say I did that last time. Maybe I just forgot.

I could just change my oil early but if this is the case then there must be some underlying issues somewhere. Anyone have any thoughts on what could be going on?

I have had the change oil indicator come on in less than 1500 miles of normal driving. ignore it and change the oil at your preferred interval..
Based on a fleet oil analysis study we did years ago at LAX, synthetic oils can be good past 10,,000 miles when used with a high-quality filter.

when i do my oil i reset the life meter of course, but i also reset one of the trip odometers and somewhere between 6-7k i change my oil. have done this w my jeeps, and pretty much everything else i have owned. usually the life meter is under 50% at that point.

I got myself onto the 5000 mile schedule so I can easily tell when it's time to do a change. I'm usually at 20-30% of oil life when I do my changes so that's why this is so weird. It has to just be I forgot to reset it.

I think just go with mileage. I don’t wiry about percentage. I do mine every 5000 miles
