Yep, even at 3200 pounds by the time you have 4-5 people in a wrangler plus the ineveitable junk you will end up with in the back you would absolutely need a V8 conversion and even then handling and breaking with that much weight would suffer. My Honda Pilots tow rating drops to 500 pounds from 4500 just from loading inside with 8 passengers.

I've been researching trailers for a while now and I think I am caught up on nearly all the brands available in the U.S. thus far. Not knowing your budget, the 3 that I have on my list are

- Patriot Camper X1GT - which is the most expensive of the lot as a fully decked out one can be about $45K
- Tied in 2nd place are both Nuthouse Industries "Peanut" - fully aluminum ruggedized trailer that tops out at about $25K and of course Turtleback Trailers Expedition Trailer which can be in the same neighborhood (pricewise).

I had the Moby1 XT at the top of my list but given that they want a 50% deposit and 10 month turnaround, given that I was going to go for a fully loaded one at $45K, I wasn't planning to give $22.5K to a company and have them sit on my money for that long.

For 4+ people in a tent, you could consider CVTS Mt. Denali Summit - it's expensive at about $3,500 but depending on the size of the people going to occupy the tent, you could fit 5 or even 6. You could alternately use the awning extension that turns into a room and put a couple of sleeping bags there for more people.

Those are expensive trailers, but probably worth it for what they are designed to do.

That's nice and all but it's way too much for the jeep to handle.
Don’t tell this guy.

I’ve talked to the Conqueror folks, as I’m currently trying to decide on a 440 or 490... but they have a LOT of customers that pull with Wranglers with no issues.

The trailer brake controller thread has some good info for integration.

I'm not going to get into what other people have done or if it CAN be done, but there's a reason FCA limited the towing capacity to 3500lbs. The trailer is listed at 3200lbs dry. If you wanna tow well above factory specs, that's on you - but if it all goes to hell in a hand basket, I hope you're by yourself and not needlessly endangering anyone else.

I'm not into overlanding and I just didn't want to roll around on the ground in a tent anymore, and when I go wheeling I setup camp as a base and go multiple times through the trip. I say it that way because an RTT would not work for me. I went with a Quicksilver 6.0, basically a tent in a box. They make them bigger sleeping up to 6, well they did, they were bought out and just closed down production, but they can still be had. Mine has the off-road package but I don't think I'd be dragging this through the rocky trails in the desert.

Waiting on my 2018 JL
I am going to buy the Morris Mule. Price point is good and it will fit in the 3rd bay of my garage with no problem. Will buy a car top tent for it. I will be able to leave all of my camping gear in the trailer and just have to add clothes, food, and adult beverages when I am ready to go.

That does look like an excellent option.
