Hey Everyone,

I was cleaning my OEM auto dimming mirror on my 2021 JLUR 4xe this morning, and I noticed there was a bubble/blemish in the top right corner of the mirror. To get a better look at the bubble/blemish, I removed the mirror, but it's hard to tell if the bubble/blemish is by design or some sort of manufacturer's defect that I never noticed until now.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I looked up photos of replacement OEM auto dimming mirrors on Mopar parts dealers, but I do not see anything resembling this peculiar situation. The model number on the back of the mirror is as follows: 68297611AB 31195 21C30160128. My only guess is that it's a possible sensor opening to pick up any light from driver's behind the Wrangler with their brights on.

Any insight regarding this inquiry would be greatly appreciated!

It's been about two years and you're just noticing it? Such an egregious defect would probably drive you nuts, so let's just say that it's by design, ok?

Thanks for everyone's input. It's not a huge deal regarding the fact that the blemish/defect exists. It doesn't affect functionality. I was just trying to survey if this was supposed to be that way or if it were a hole for sensing light brightness from behind the Wrangler.

Update: Took the JLUR 4xe for it's last free oil change under the Jeep Wave package, and I asked the service rep if the rear view mirror could be replaced under warranty due to a manufacturer's defect. The rep looked into it, and they were able to order the replacement mirror free of charge under the 3-Year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

For something that is predominantly a cosmetic issue, it's nice that Jeep was kind enough to honor replacement. For anyone else in my shoes, YMMV, but I figured my experience was worth posting.

What a waste of resources.
To each their own. Jeep had the ability to decline replacing the rear view mirror on the basis of the issue not being severe enough. However, when the window sticker for my build is $66,000+, you'd expect that owners would never be put into a position to have to see if replacement under warranty is possible. ?‍♂

Just out of sheer craziness…

Did you by chance try to rub it off with alcohol?

Good question to ask. When cleaning the rear view mirror, I used Sprayway cleaner, which I believe has rubbing alcohol as one of the main ingredients/chemicals.

While it is hard to tell in the photo, the defect was basically missing the mirror coating from within the glass. If you could shine a light at the perfect angle, you’d get to see the electronics inside the mirror, which was why I thought there was a possibility that the defect was just a sensor I never noticed.
