To be fair, FCA is in a bind here.As at least half of it , including start-stop , serve no purpose at all , what could possibly go wrong ? First time I heard of start-stop , I thought it was stupid .
The Federal Government implemented IMHO ridiculous CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards and the only way to increase the fuel mileage of a heavy vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick like the Wrangler would be to severely underpower it with a tiny engine, smooth it so it had the aerodynamics of a family vehicle, use a lot more aluminum like the new Ford F-150, or implement auto start/stop.
Which options would you choose?
