As at least half of it , including start-stop , serve no purpose at all , what could possibly go wrong ? First time I heard of start-stop , I thought it was stupid .
To be fair, FCA is in a bind here.

The Federal Government implemented IMHO ridiculous CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards and the only way to increase the fuel mileage of a heavy vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick like the Wrangler would be to severely underpower it with a tiny engine, smooth it so it had the aerodynamics of a family vehicle, use a lot more aluminum like the new Ford F-150, or implement auto start/stop.

Which options would you choose?

I'd choose (5) take off the hard top , lower the windshield forward , take off the doors , and let the roll bar be the only aerodynamic drag ; then I'd give a finger salute to "café standards" .

Fun to say, but since FCA likes selling vehicles in America without paying huge fines, not so practical.

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/04/02/2018-06550/civil-penalties

As a result of this review, NHTSA is proposing to retain the current civil penalty rate in 49 U.S.C. 32912(b) of $5.50 per tenth of a mile per gallon for automobile manufacturers that do not meet applicable CAFE standards and are unable to offset such a deficit with compliance credits.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...elaying-boost-in-fuel-penalties-idUSKBN1HU2SS

For the record, for Light Trucks the FCA CAFE number for 2016 was 26.4, the required standard 29.0, so the base fine for 2016 (not including offsets) was 26 x 5.5 x 1,365,868 vehicles produced, or $195,319,124.

Of course offsets drastically reduce that amount - FCA likely paid just a few million dollars as small cars that beat the target offset fines for larger vehicles that don't - but it's still a major factor in their engineering decisions.

By the way, the EPA wants that fine amount to be $14 per tenth of a gallon, not just $5.50.

This shows the dumbness of the CAFE regulations ; my personal café regulation is to be in a Paris café with an alluring girl . That will be a good escape from Elon Musk , who says that gasoline should cost $ 10 a gallon .

I too have the speedo probem! My analog ranges from dead on to 4 or 5 MPH high. Seems to be heat related. The longer i drive the worse it gets. Dealer gave me a BS story that all analog speedos are that way.
This is a safety recall in the making.. Lets not give up...

Good decision . What gave you the idea that a service manager at a dealer knows anything ? Go to an experienced independent mechanic for an unbiased opinion .

You can go anywhere you want for an unbiased opinion . Doesn't have any effect on your warranty . I always go to an expert mechanic , not a service manager . Who will know more , an expert mechanic or a service manager ?

Hey buddy , something must have not gone right if the service manager sets people off . If something doesn't go right , maybe it's time to switch to another idea . That was my only point . Otherwise , if he sets people off, things can go bad in a hurry . Be safe , buddy .

Exactly. Last thing i need is assault charges. From now on i go elsewhere. No time for managers who cock off on customers.
