My 2021 Jl Sahara unlimited starts with out the key fob with the doors off and the roof off and the alarm on. Does anyone have suggestions as to why?

Isn't the pushbutton ignition a wonderful invention? Life is so much better.

Does it still start when you move the keys and Jeep further apart?

Does it still start when you put things back on (preferably one at a time)?

My understanding, and I could have this all wrong, is when you open the door of your jeep, the electronics in the jeep wake up and and transmit a signal, requesting a response from your fob. If your fob receives the signal, it wakes up and responds, transmitting a signal. But, my fob must be very close to the jeep to work. I can hold it outside the jeep and it won't start. Not sure why your's starts when the fob is way outside/away. Get a faraday blocking box to put your fobs in while at home. Get a couple faraday blocking pouches for your fobs while out and about.

We bought one of the boxes off Amazon and it indeed works. I don't have any experience with the little pocket pouches.

did you buy it used? any possibility theres a third fob and its somewhere in the jeep?

if both of your fobs are 50ft away then its probably not the fobs. I don't use the jeep app but if that supports remote starting and you have it on your phone it might be related?

I did buy it used but I did not have my phone with me when I tris it. I’ll have to search the my jeep to see if I can find another fob. I also do not have remote start on it

Mine is the same, if the FOB is more than around 3' from the button, it won't start.

It's gotta be finding a FOB somewhere and like Brad mentioned, sure seems like there's an additional "lost" FOB in the Jeep that it's reading.

Honestly if there was a mod out there that replaced it with a regular ignition switch id do it immediately
Keys are much easier to pick and get around than an electronic device, so I am sure there are many people in your area who would prefer you do that. I'll take the perceived downsides of an electronic system any day. Not having to deal with keys is worth it. One of these days I will just get some universal keyfob mimicking electronics implanted into my hand. Just my personal opinion on the matter, not trying to argue with you or anything.

As others have said there is either a third key lost down in the center console, probably fell into the handbrake crack; Or the previous owner installed some form of repeater or something to boost the signal range.

OR, one of the dealers who had possession of the Jeep installed a dealership security device that is screwing with the security module.

A good test - with your keys as far away in your house as you an get them, start your jeep and go to the closest park, end of your driveway, anywhere as far as you're willing to walk and strand yourself away from them. Park, leave the Jeep running, get out, and close the door. (Don't lock it.) If you don't get the three-honk annoyance, then there's a fob somewhere in your Jeep, or something mimicking your fob(s).

The "No Keyfob found" valet mode "grace period" is also long enough that you should be able to drive around your block to test if there was some modification to dramatically extend the range of your system.

Commercial vehicle have had push buttons start for 50 years, it's the key fob issue.
They need to be hardwired (somehow) to the Jeep so the Jeep wont go twenty feet w/o it.
That would stop copying of the FOB code.
Your neighbor can't just start using your cell phone line....

ok so when i first got the thing and still learning about this system i took the wife out for a drive and on the way back to get beer i get out of the jeep (leaving it running for the wife) and the thing honks 3 times. ok great im reminded the fob is in my pocket and everyone in the parking lot knows too.

anyway while im in the store with the fob in my pocket my wife for the hell of it gets in the drivers seat and fucks off just to scare me.

so - keyfob in pocket, nowhere near my running jeep and the jeep is completely drivable.

seems like i have to pick between always having an uncomfortable lump in my pocket or leaving it on the dash and anyone can just waltz up and steal it. not very secure or comfortable!

a piece of metal that has to be stuck in the car is just better. it becomes a part of the process of starting and stopping the vehicle. as for perceived downsides well, not only is the electrical system quite hackable but the more components you put in something the more likely that something is going to break down sooner rather than later.

some things just work and dont need to be changed but thats just me.

Same with an old-fashioned key. Shockingly if you leave the vehicle running or leave the key in it then it can be easily stolen.

Note that you can always lock it before leaving it running like we did Saturday when we left our dog in it with the air conditioner running while at a restaurant.

If size is an issue then you replace it with something from a vendor like @Threedom.
