Not Titanium. Titanium is very prone to galling. Galling in threads is a very bad thing.
Interesting. Just did a little bit of research based on what you said, guess titanium is out of the picture.

Tried doing a little bit of research on stainless steel, couldn't really find much info on it.

I'm not even sure if they make stainless steel lug nuts, is that anything you've ever heard of before @roaniecowpony ?

It would definitely solve the rusting issue, along with providing a hardened metal which won't gall as easily.

Hello Jeeper family…

Do you happen to know if my OE lug nut sets fit for these new wheels? (As pic below)

I got a 24 wrangler 2 door sport, so with steel wheels now

thanks

I think for all aftermarket wheels the oem lugs are too thick, check with wheel manufacturer for recommendation.

I've had Gorilla lug nuts on my F150 for over 2 years, no rust.

FWIW, Mopar locking lug nuts are made by McGard.

As for "swollen" lug nuts, another thing that happens is that the steel lug nut under the thin stainless cover gets rounded edges, which deforms the outer stainless cover. If it gets bad, they become almost impossible to remove. It happens from using impacts on the lug nuts, which will wear out those with with stainless covers (like the OEM ones) quick. I once tried to help a fellow Jeeper with a flat on the side of the highway. All of the lugs were swollen and deformed. Her factory lug wrench would not fit. Another Jeeper stopped, he had a huge selection of tools. Together we could not remove them. They were hammered on with an impact at who knows how many ft lbs or torque. She had to call a tow truck. Every lug nut had to be air chiseled off, which ruined the wheels too. At least the wheels were already corroding with the clear coat pealing.

My sister took her 3013 JK to a Discount Tire store for rotate and balance. The tech told her her lugs were "swollen" and she needed new ones. What people won't do for a dollar. Can you believe this?
Yes, I believe it. I've personally had lug nuts of that vintage swell on my WJ. Jeep uses a thin two-part design; eventually, the outer shell deforms and bulges. You usually notice when the lug nut gets stuck in the socket after removing. In fact, my JL is starting to have this issue so I bought one-piece lug nuts.

Yes, you can find some SS lug nuts out there. The issue of galling is also a problem with some SS alloys. Some of you old gun guys may remember the SS pistols; AMT Hardballer 1911 in SS and the Automag. Both of these pistols had some serious galling issues. They tried all kinds of lubricants. The problem is that most of the nice machining SS like 303 is prone to galling. A good anti-seize made for SS should keep it happy.

Yes, it’s a real problem. The OEM nuts are steel capped with a thin aluminum skin that causes them to first get stuck in sockets, then not fit on the correct size socket at all. They make special .5mm oversized sockets specifically for this problem.

so in other words, the problem is you.

Never saw an aluminum skin on a lug nut. All that I've see is thin stainless steel on carbon steel nuts.

Any particular "brand" of black lugs nuts that will stay black that I should look for?
Just don't get too cheap on the lugs.
When I bought my wheels, they recommended a set (forget the name), but they were about $50 or so.
Now I'm looking for a set of black wheel locks that spin, they're a HUGE pain to get off (ask me how I know lol)

If you're buying these new, they should come with new nuts. It looks like factory ones are conical seat, which is the same as most aftermarket wheels. So good either way.
I have never purchased wheels and had them come with new lug nuts.
