I just ordered a 2 door Rubicon X, my first Jeep. I live in Boise Idaho and went to a local (Bucks) 4x4 shop that specializes in Wranglers. They advised me to switch to 35” tires and change the suspension, amongst other things. Bucks told me it could ride on the street like a Cadillac. I’m old and spent much of my time in the Middle East, so I like comforts. I’m not going to rock crawl, but I intend to hit fire trails. I plan to remove the rear seat for my two Malinois. I took delivery of the attached today, nets will not work for Malinois. To the question, basically I want it to look cool, drive well and be dog friendly. Bucks told me it will take about $12k and I’m good with it, but I don’t want to take it in the shorts as well. Can the Wrangler ride like a Tahoe? Will 35’s make it more prone to roll? What are some specific upgrades I can have installed to achieve my goal. I don’t know how to turn a wrench, so please be kind! Many thanks!

Drive it for a while before handing over $12k for changes that you may or may not want / need.

It'll definitely do fire trails without issue. Note that it will never ride on the street like a Cadillac. If they're selling you that line then you should seriously consider finding another shop.

If you're needing it to ride like a Cadillac then you might want to cancel your order.

I wouldn't go right to 35's out of the gate, and "35's" is a general class of tires from terrible to amazing and everything in-between. If you're looking for advice, you'd need to define what the "suspension changes" are.

I could rip through mud, sand, fire breaks with my base sport.

Given the live axle of the Wrangler it'll never ride like a Cadillac or a Tahoe.

My advice is to drive it for a while and think long and hard before you do anything major to an already major investment.

Then decide.

Enjoy the stock 33” tires and stock Shocks
and when starting to do more then you can start searching on parts
Stock runs smooth soon as you start upgrading tires shocks etc etc never will be same :)

ps : 12k for 35” + lift kit + shock ?? Over priced

Similar to others, I recommend keeping it stock for at least the duration of the warranty period. After that you will know if it performs the way you like or not for what you are using it for. Then, in the future if you decide to go with 35s and have a Rubicon X, it will clear 35s as-is. Lifting isn't needed and if done will just increase your center of gravity making your quality of driving worse.

Nope. This shop of yours may build decent rigs but the line about Cadillacs and Tahoes is unadulterated BS.

Your 2-door Wrangler will ride like a 2-door Wrangler forever, and it will need more parts, more money to maintain that as you go higher with bigger tires.

If your main goal is fire roads, try it stock for a while…

@COMBAT DOG, if you ordered it from a local dealership then consider looking at the spreadsheet in my sig. You might be able to save a few grand.
This!

Ask me how I got my 392:rock:

Actually, I do not need it to ride like a Cadillac, but that is what I was told. However, I also read stock, it is pretty rough, which is OK, but in my previous life, I slept in the sand and dirt, therefore, I want luxury as much as possible and will pay for it. I appreciate your statement it will never be a Cadillac. Many thanks!

I get it, but I also want it to look cool! However, I have an Asian wife and I don’t want her to roll it.
