100% agree

First congratulations.

Secondly, take your time e, enjoy and drive it stock then you'll get a feel for what you need.

I made the mistake of jumping the gone and ended up paying twice for stuff and taking a loss when I should gave taken my time to figure thi gs out.

Enjoy the journey, it's one heck of a ride.
That is great advice! I currently own 2 Raptors, a 911s, X5M and a Macan. I a.ways jump the gun. Check out the attached 6k …..not mistake, but ….I did not need it.

I just ordered a 2 door Rubicon X, my first Jeep. I live in Boise Idaho and went to a local (Bucks) 4x4 shop that specializes in Wranglers. They advised me to switch to 35” tires and change the suspension, amongst other things. Bucks told me it could ride on the street like a Cadillac. I’m old and spent much of my time in the Middle East, so I like comforts. I’m not going to rock crawl, but I intend to hit fire trails. I plan to remove the rear seat for my two Malinois. I took delivery of the attached today, nets will not work for Malinois. To the question, basically I want it to look cool, drive well and be dog friendly. Bucks told me it will take about $12k and I’m good with it, but I don’t want to take it in the shorts as well. Can the Wrangler ride like a Tahoe? Will 35’s make it more prone to roll? What are some specific upgrades I can have installed to achieve my goal. I don’t know how to turn a wrench, so please be kind! Many thanks!

Wait a sec... You ordered a Rubicon X and it did not come with 35? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Rubicon X comes from the factory with a 2" lift and 35" tires. And he wants you to swap tires? For what? So he can sell you $2500 of new mud tires that will be rumbly and be extreme overkill for forest service roads? Run dude. Run.

I think the shop guy is trying to screw you. If you want an affordable and more comfortable ride, spend $1200 for a set of Fox 2" shocks, trash the Rubicon red ones, and do the labor yourself. It's 8 total bolts, 2 on each shock. You can swap all 4 shocks in an hour if you don't remove the wheels. 2 hours if you do. He's ripping you off. You don't need to spend $12,000. He's out of his gourd.

And I don't care what anyone says, it'll NEVER ride like a caddy. Ever. It's not built or designed for that. Find another shop.

I'm fairly sure you can't get 35" tires on the 2 door. I believe it will come with 33" tires.

I've owned 3 2drs and not one ever rode like a Cadillac. I also agree with everyone advising to keep it stock for awhile. Put 20 or 30 thousand miles on it. Rubicon's are fun to drive stock and it's also fun to take some time looking around for the parts you really want. 33s aren't bad at all especially for fire trails.

Again-drive it and get the feel of it. Buy tires before you know how the stock ones work for your use need ? You might want more/ less aggressive. If you find the acceleration/ performance lacking, 35’s will make it worse without a re gear. Perhaps 34’s would be more suitable. By the time you’re stock ones need replacement you will know, with little extra cost.
no, I didn’t follow this advice but waited too long so my take off’s were only worth $100 apiece. Either upgrade immediately while your tires are new, or wait until they need replacement…. Since you’re not experienced and knowing,
I recommend the latter

X is a loaded Rubicon with 33” tires.
XR (Xtreme Recon) is the package that comes with 35” tires.

Actually, I do not need it to ride like a Cadillac, but that is what I was told. However, I also read stock, it is pretty rough, which is OK, but in my previous life, I slept in the sand and dirt, therefore, I want luxury as much as possible and will pay for it. I appreciate your statement it will never be a Cadillac. Many thanks!
A stock Rubicon does not ride rough. I've heard some pretty ridiculous shit in my life but that's got to be pretty far up there.

You’ve been given great advice. WAAYY too many folks buy a Jeep and immediately pump $$$ in it to make it “better”. Stock your Rubicon is more capable than 98% of vehicles out there and will easily run any forest service road in the country. That shop is blowing smoke and selling something you don’t need. The mods they’re advising will put additional strain on components, raise CG, and negatively impact your driving range. That whole “ride like a Cadillac” or a Tahoe is BS. JL’s ride like a short wheelbase solid axle vehicle-Rough! If that is NOt what you’ll be happy with Do not get a Jeep. You can drop all the money you want into it but that doesn’t change the laws of physics.

Great advice from everyone here.

I have had several 2 doors wranglers and several 4 door wranglers. The 2 door will never feel like a Cadillac or a Tahoe - the wheelbase is too short for it to ride that smooth and isn’t much you can do about it no matter how much you spend. It is going to bounce around on the road and on the trail.

it is a great rig that’s for sure, but I would seriously question anyone that refers to a cadillac when talking about a 2 door wrangler. It is what it is.

So a shop that makes money customizing Jeeps says you need to customize your Jeep? They just want money, drive it stock find out what you need and or dont like and modify to your taste not to the wallet of an aftermarket shop.

I have the Jeep you ordered. I'm making the jump to 35" tires when the the 33"'s wear out, plan on lifting it a bit after the warranty, possibly.
So far, it rides great, very comfortable and easy to handle. Furthermore, it hasn't balked yet on any off-roading thing I've asked it to do. Like the vast majority, I advise you to let it ride for a bit. I'll wager you end up needing to do nothing to it.

If you want comfort, sell it and buy something else.

I get it, but I also want it to look cool! However, I have an Asian wife and I don’t want her to roll it.
Ok since I lack impulse control and social skills I can’t let your last sentence go. You know most Jeeps are rolled by dudes being stupid right? And there are actually women out there off roading better than men?

Do you really expect better from most people around here though?

I greatly appreciate all the tips and everyone agrees I should wait for the mods. FYI, the Rubicon Extreme package was not on the two door build website and the salesman didn’t tell me about it, so I did not order it. I later learned 35’s come standard on the 4 door, but not the two door. I will focus on getting it ready for my dogs and a few road trips, one to Moab, which brings up another question. With my dogs, cargo space is nonexistent. I have read everything I can on roof rack options, and they appear to be limited. Yesterday I went to Rack Attack and discovered the attached. Does anyone have experience with the Yakama device? https://yakima.com/pages/exo
i need something that allows me to open the rear door for my dogs and carry about 120 pounds of cargo, including dog food.
