I just ordered a 2 door Rubicon X, my first Jeep. I live in Boise Idaho and went to a local (Bucks) 4x4 shop that specializes in Wranglers. They advised me to switch to 35” tires and change the suspension, amongst other things. Bucks told me it could ride on the street like a Cadillac. I’m old and spent much of my time in the Middle East, so I like comforts. I’m not going to rock crawl, but I intend to hit fire trails. I plan to remove the rear seat for my two Malinois. I took delivery of the attached today, nets will not work for Malinois. To the question, basically I want it to look cool, drive well and be dog friendly. Bucks told me it will take about $12k and I’m good with it, but I don’t want to take it in the shorts as well. Can the Wrangler ride like a Tahoe? Will 35’s make it more prone to roll? What are some specific upgrades I can have installed to achieve my goal. I don’t know how to turn a wrench, so please be kind! Many thanks!

Asking a Jeep shop if you need mods is like asking a dog if it's hungry, the answer is always yes,

Ok since I lack impulse control and social skills I can’t let your last sentence go. You know most Jeeps are rolled by dudes being stupid right? And there are actually women out there off roading better than men?
I get it, but my wife admits Asians are not known for their driving skills. Quick example. The X5M has black BMW rims and I wash it by hand. Shortly after she started driving it, I discovered curb rash on both right side wheels, which I expected. The next week I discovered curb rash on the two left side wheels. She doesn’t even know how the left side occurred. I also saw some green branches stuck in the undercarriage. I just bought her a Lariat to run over stuff.

As everyone has said...waiting & seeing how you feel with it stock is great advice.

BUT if you are insistent on modifying it for looks right away, I'd go either 2 routes (First route due to having this set-up):

1. Rancho 2” Lift kit with adjustable RS9000XL shocks that allow you to adjust from soft to firm ride WITH the Geometry Correction bracket… www.northridge4x4.com has the kit for JL 2dr for $809.99 & Geometry Correction bracket for $210.39.

It is proven to be VERY capable (look up @wibornz on here).

What it looks like on JLUR with 315/70-17 (35s):

2. Get dealership to install Mopar 2” Lift. Factory warranty from the get go (other who have can chime in on cost) and throw 315/35s on (37s even fit fine).

But as others have stated, this shop is trying to just make you spend way more than needed.

I did not even think about the fact that a lift could void the warranty. Thank you for that advice. The blue Jeep is basically the look I want to achieve. What wheels do you have on that bad boy? If you increased from 33 to 35, did it impact performance?

Enjoy the stock 33” tires and stock Shocks
and when starting to do more then you can start searching on parts
Stock runs smooth soon as you start upgrading tires shocks etc etc never will be same :)

ps : 12k for 35” + lift kit + shock ?? Over priced
Very pricey. Just enjoy your new stock Jeep. Take your time to find other shops, someone not promising you Cadillac suspension. Perhaps look out of state, road trip if you have to. But later, burn through the stock gear first. and have fun with your pups out on the trail

Congratulations on your new jeep…….. now go to a big Jeep function, some kind of a gathering where there will be over 100 jeeps and look at all of them and ask questions in person and you could see everything in person, that is my absolute best advice. Online you only get 25% good advice, but in person 100% in front of your eyes.

I've dealt with Bucks a couple times and haven't had the best luck. You might check with the dealer, see what they'd charge and there wouldn't be any potential warranty issues.

I did not have any performance issues going from the 33s to 35s (fyi, I have the 3.6L).

The wheels are JK AEV Borah wheels … they make the same wheels for the JL but tuck in a little more than the JK version and the JK backspacing is what is recommended for most lifts. AEV made the JL wheel backspacing designed with their lift kit in mind. (Which IS another great lift kit BUT designed more for Overlanding carrying heavier loads.

Nope. This shop of yours may build decent rigs but the line about Cadillacs and Tahoes is unadulterated BS.

Your 2-door Wrangler will ride like a 2-door Wrangler forever, and it will need more parts, more money to maintain that as you go higher with bigger tires.

If your main goal is fire roads, try it stock for a while…
What are you talking about, my 2 door rode like a dream 🤣😂🤣😂

I run 35s on my stock suspension Rubicon 2.0 and have not noticed any negative performance issues.

Before I ordered the X I saw a Jeep everywhere I went, now that I’m looking, I only see a few. However some of the Jeep owners I have contacted start talking about gear ratios and other stuff, which is a completely foreign language.

OK...so you already got the upgrade fever... My JLRX is a 4 door..while I like the look of the 2 door..I refer the ride of the 4 door. Traded a 23 Yukon Denali for this. The ride is totally different, IT is a jeep..Did you test drive a 2 door and 4 door before ordering? I am doing some minor interior mods, but leaving the suspension and tires alone..I think they look great..The 4 door X has 34.5 in 315's (35's)If I were you, I would count the days waiting for delivery, pick it up , drive it awhile, I think you will find that the tires and lift on the X will give you the look and ride you are after. IT WILL NEVER RIDE LIKE A CADILLAC...and you do not want it to. When you have specific questions...ask this forum..these are very knowledgeable jeep owners and they are happy to help..oh and be sure to wave and be prepared for your 1st duck!! Happy trails.

You don’t need any of that. Save your money.
