Boy this is the weirdest brake thread I have ever seen.

So all new brakes warp from normal use, so we all need to unmount and machine/turn our brand new brakes that come in our vehicles. OMG! The s$@# you read these days.

And people are still talking about turning/machining commodity brake rotors that cost <$100 when you change the pads? OMG! Do you also resole shoes that you buy for $30 and Payless?

OP. If your brakes were working fine before and just but the pads are low, inspect the rotors visually. If they don't have cracks or a noticeable lip (meaning they are worn), replace the pads and be done. If the rotors have a lip or cracks, replace them with new ones and be done. If you replace the rotors clear the hub face with a brush. Same for the wheel/rotor hat surface when you reinstall wheels.

P.S. OEM pads these days have gotten worse because of the CA zero copper mandate (that is prob the reason for Jeep changing the pads). So try to get aftermarket (e.g. Powerstop) pads.

Good luck.

At what mileage do I need to get my rotors turned? I have 16K on my Jeep and they do not pulsate at all. I also have not had a set of rotors turned since the early 90's on my own cars or even customer cars. Since this is a bigger problem over death wobble and 2.0l coolant leaks, I would like some help as to what keyword to use for the search function. As we all know, all rotors warp and need to be machined. Even the best brakes for a Jeep. I thank you all in advance for helping me get to the bottom of this massive problem as all cars deal with it.

I try to make things last, never had pads and rotors last like the fronts on my Sahara. I hear Jeeps brake differently but holy.

Put these back till the next tire rotation… let the cheap comments begin!! And the rotors are like new? must-be the big brake kit.

FWIW, I forgot to check the rear brakes on my truck, knowing they were thin. It caught up to me on our road trip up through California wine country. The right rear inboard pad went T.U. about 600 miles from home. I knew what it was as soon as I heard it. I had tools to do the job with us. But blew it off. The truck has 6 piston 14.25" Wildwood fronts. It'll stop without rear brakes. But the fingernail on the chalkboard noise drove me nuts for 600 miles. They were OE with over 100k. New rotors and pads time

No wear tabs or they came off as well? They should give you some warning.

Want to hear even more craziness? They changed the design on the 24 and there isn't a single after market pad out there for fonts. so I had to order a front right pair for $150 from Mopar parts (half what dealer wanted)

You can afford underwear? Must be nice, did you get the Rubicon?
Nah, I get them outta the trash at the old folks home. Socks too. I saved up enough money siphoning gas from guys with shiny Jeeps to afford a Rubicon. The shiny ones are always full. Thats how you can find a lot of gas. If they have a lift its easier to get more gas out of it. Shiney and a lift. Thats a score.

I was thinking about how some people should put a smoke detector in their back pocket before they go to the dealership. Probably save a lot of money.

I can't begin to imagine ever taking any vehicle to a dealer for non-warranty work.
