Good afternoon,

My 2018 JLUR needs new pads on the front. Just got a call from the dealership where they confirmed it is just the pads worn out and only the front. However, they are telling me that Jeep has come out with a new design so they will have to replace the pads and the rotors and want nearly $900 to do it (just the front).

Seems absolutely crazy right. So my question is if this is a real thing and I am essentially going to have to replace rotors as well because of this design change or if they are BSā€˜ing me. If the latter, would going to somewhere else that is not the dealership void any kind of warranty as that is why I use the dealership (have the extended MVP warranty).

Thanks in advance.

This is the pads my dealer told needed replaced. I replaced my pads myself. And did not change rotors. I have a 18 Sahara. Don’t ever trust your dealer.Sahara and Rubicon have the same Heavy Duty pads. As you can see I didn’t need pads.

If you dumped a pad lining and are grinding, I'd at least turn the rotors. Same if you've got pad deposits and are pulsing.

Aftermarket rotors are so cheap, most don't even screw with turning/resurfacing them any more.

I have an 18 and you can absolutely change just the brake pads. I've replaced brake components on it myself. Either their explanation was awful in that you 'should' replace the rotors too due to warping/another issue or they have no clue what they are doing. Either way I'd go elsewhere.

Sounds sus as the young folk now say. Can you do them yourself or have a buddy help you?
Was worried about warranty to be honest. Also dont like messing around with brakes.
Other dealership is going to do them anyway and not change discs.

Saying that though if I got someone else to do it not at a dealership is there any warranty implication?

I thought so too. I even called back and asked them to confirm. They did. My rotors are fine but the new design means everything needs to be changed. Considering doing it myself now.

I just looked at rock auto, I'll be damned, they only sell rotor pads and disks as kits, thats what mopar does I bet, and all the brake parts are companies I have never heard of, from $98 an axle to $500 for all four. At Autozone, You can get just pad for 35 up to $90 per axle for duralast gold ceramic, those have worked well for me.

Jeep updated the front brake setup and you must purchase new rotors that are compatible with the new pad design. Here is the info

This is from All Mopar Parts. They indeed updated the brakes and you need to buy rotors if you are going with Mopar. Aftermarket you can just do the pads.

So I have a 21 JLURD. Are you saying that Jeep upgraded the rotors from the ones which were delivered with mine after I purchased it and that I need to replace the rotors and pads if I go with Mopar pads? Just trying to understand what you’re saying.

I don’t think you can buy the Mopar pads anymore. But I’m not 100% sure. Your best bet is to talk with a Mopar parts department.

I'm on rockauto, I see plenty of brake pads alone.
