Very, very odd. The only time this happens is if the VIN in the PCM does not match the VIN in the radio. I have no idea how this could happen from a simple battery replacement.

Disconnecting the radio (or the battery) can sometimes cause the radio to lose its configuration, but I've never seen a VIN mismatch like this before. I'd perform a radio reset with wi-tech and verify the VIN matches in both modules before yoinking the radio. The scan tool should also be able to display the serial # required to get the security code without pulling the dash if it comes to it.
I don’t know why, neither did Jeep. They tried to get the code without pulling it, failed and pulled it for the ser#. Brought it out reset.
I tried to get it so it wouldn’t cost you anything, but we have to pull it for $110.
🤔 regrettably, my very good, proven trustworthy service writer is no longer there, this did not create trust- even if true.

Pulling the radio is an easy DIY, one snap on dash bezel and 4 screws if memory serves me correctly.

For the stress, time, and $110 I have the security code, the hard way, that should have been supplied with the vehicle. 🤨

After installing a new battery I got locked out of the main screen. Security code required. I went to Jeep and it has to be pulled out to get the serial number from the back to get the code. About $110. They said it’s the first time they have seen it happen. Anyone else have this happen ? 🤨
Try calling the parts department at the dealership and tell them you need the unlock code for your radio. You will need your VIN. See post 9 in the link below.

I have replaced my radio after I cracked my screen so I'm wondering if this will happen to me when I replace my battery. Maybe I will just buy a new Jeep. Problem solved.

That’s was the first thing tried, the parts guy tried and said he couldn’t get it, then the service writer tried to access it, called a tech out and he tried. Then took it in the shop to remove it for the ser# .

The head unit in Offspring's Honda requires a security code to be entered to enable operation after power is interrupted. Knowing this, we ensured that the code was included with the vehicle docs (e.g., Owner's Manual) at the time of purchase.

That said, if we did lose the code, I've already confirmed with the dealer that they'd just need the vehicle's VIN and proof of ownership, in the form of a registration card, for them to look up and provide the security code to us at no charge.

There's no way I wouldn't raise a fuss if I was expected to pay even a penny to obtain a security code that should've accompanied the sale of a vehicle. This is doubly true if I was/am the original owner.

Maybe a PM to Jeep Cares to request a goodwill refund of that $110.00? Just a thought.

Oh boy- it could work, or dealing with [USER=13530]@JeepCares could cause more aggravation. It already is, it took me several attempts to get that to work,(I think), a good idea though. They should be flagged, we shall see if they respond.

Try 10099 - [last 4 digits of radio SN]?
Nope- that that doesn’t work, I have it now and it’s different than the ser#. Not a bad thought though.

I ran into something like that after a battery swap, and the dealer had to pull the screen to read the serial too. What saved me later was keeping any tiny device batteries labeled, since I once mixed them up; grabbing an lr1130 equivalent from a reliable place helped me avoid another headache. If you get your radio code, snap a pic so you don’t get stuck paying again.

No issue with my 18 Jlus, swapped both batteries for 1, removed the solenoid and wiring. later I swapped a rebuilt infotainment head from the dealer. My heart sank when the new head didn’t work… then I put the fuse back in… that helped. I really have to stop doing these DIY’s at midnight.

Best of luck.

Everything about this uConnect radio is asinine.

Last night on mine only the right side speakers were working, this morning all speakers are working as normal.
