Long story short, I travel for large parts of the year. I leave my Wrangler at my neighbors house, parked in his garage. Well the last time I did this, his 16 year old kid took my jeep to school without asking me or his dad. I'm not super agro about that, just wish he called me so I could have told him no. But I was in an area where time zones were a mess (16 hours ahead). That said, I'm going to be leaving my Jeep Wrangler at my neghbors house for at least 3 months this year. I want to set off the check engine light or other error behavior to dissuade someone from driving it. Like if their garage is on fire, I would vary much like them to move my car out of the fire... or if they just need to move it around to get farm equipment in and out.

How can I give my 2021 Jeep Wrangler ecodiesel a check engine line easily and one that won't break the car if it's ran for a short period of time with the light on. Or it could be something other like the guage cluster no longer works or signalling doesn't work.

I do have a Tazer JL installed but couldn't find any way to use that for my purpose.

Thoughts? Winning suggestion will get a Starbucks or Subway gift card.

I'm guessing the answer might be to pull the dash relay but I'm afraid thats going to stop the start button from working.

What about installing a kill switch, and only telling your friend where it is? Or ask your friend to keep the key in a secure place? If you're concerned that it's going for a joyride again, maybe it's time to find a better, saver location.

Deflate a tire enough to get the TPMS warning. Not a check engine light but still annoying (TPMS screen comes up immediately)and may be enough to prevent long distance driving

I mean if you have the taser set a pin to drive and only give it to the parents 🤷‍♂️

If I was a teenager effectively stealing my neighbors car, would I give half a shit about a check engine light or tpms light? Of course not. You either make it un-driveable or accept the fact it may be driven. The pin code for the tazer is the simple fix, until he finds where his folks wrote that down.

up up down down left right left right should be easy enough for the parents to remember and enough of a code the kids would get it on the first try

put a freaking wheel lock on it and if it burns up let the insurance handle it. like was said above no kid is going to care even if it has a flat tire they will drive the piss out of it when no one is looking.....you could just pull the battery out as well.

Do you really believe a check engine light or other error message is going to dissuade anyone, who doesn’t care about getting your permission, from driving it if they are determined? I agree with @yokramer. Tazer with a pin. Then use the “taser” he suggests on them later.

Unplug the throttle. Vehicle can idle, which will be enough to creep out of the garage assuming it is level, but nothing more.
