Hi all. I have a few questions I'd appreciate some insight on. For background, I just bought a factory 2024 JL, Sport, 3.6 L. It is literally brand new - 500 miles. The check engine light suddenly came on and started blinking. The engine was clearly stuttering/misfiring. I was about 2 miles from home. Drove slow and parked. I noticed when I pulled into the garage, the exhaust smelled very gassy/rich. I had the vehicle flat-bed towed to the dealership. With this all said, I have a few questions I'm hoping the community can provide some insight on.

1. I'm not sure what the issues is (o2 sensor, injectors, ignition coil) but how can I demand to the dealer to ensure there was no permanent damage done to the engine?. Can I ask them to scope the cylinders or something similar? I want to ensure this hasn't shaved the life off the engine in the long run after they fix whatever the issue is.

2. The flat bed tow guy really clamped down the tires. There was indents in the rubber as he was tightening the straps - is there a chance my front suspension / steering has been damaged? He said he tightened the tires down as he would with any vehicle to ensure it is secured. I'm still concerned it was too tight - any concerns there?

Thanks in advance,
-Leighton

Sorry to read about your new Jeep acting wonky, Leighton.

Coincidentally, I had virtually identical engine stuttering/poor running on a new VW Golf that I purchased some years ago. It was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a faulty ignition coil. It was replaced under warranty and the vehicle ran perfectly for the sum of time that I owned the vehicle. Hopefully yours is a similarly straightforward fix.

You didn't happen to pull any Check Engine Light codes via an OBD-II reader, did you?

A misfire due to a faulty fueling or no spark condition is bad for catalytic converters but the engine long term will be fine. No, you do not have any right to tell the dealership how to check or treat your engine beyond the terms of the warranty, nor do you, the guy who has never towed anything, have any reason to be complaining about the way the vehicle was strapped down.

500 miles? I wouldn’t even waste my time asking the forum just bring it back let the dealership look into it. Regardless it’s under warranty.

Not necessarily. If a rodent jumped up in there and chewed off the injector wiring, which they seem to enjoy doing, it's not a warranty item.
