I gotta say: @yokramer and @Remorseless were right about the turbo. It sounds like shit, but it’s peppy as fuck. I live at 7,000 feet and the difference between it and the Pentastar is startling.
I tried the I4 in a 2021 Sahara I purchased for my wife who isn't heavy on cars, and it blew a head gasket in less than 15K miles. I sold that Jeep and currently have a Willys in production with the 6...glad it's a 2024..I agree that I really liked the peppyness of the I4...

If the four-banger turbo is such a great engine, how come it has never been an option on JT?, perhaps it's a "weak" engine? (flame suit on) :CWL:

I have had turbos in the past, a couple VW passats with the 1.8T, they were great until I had to replace the turbo on one of them at 100K, the other one started having engine issues at around 120K-130K if I remember correctly.
Two years ago I had a JL turbo rental in Hawaii for a week, it was plenty peppy, engine sounded like complete sh*t, just as bad as most four banger turbos nowadays...
I have no interest in keeping long term vehicles with turbos. My JKUR '15 V6 auto has been perfectly adequate at high altitude mountainpasses: Imogene, black bear, engineer, california, ophir, etc to name a few, never felt I was underpowered especially since you are traveling at an extremely slow pace. I intend on keeping the JKUR for life, same as the '23JTR V6 auto I picked up last month (at 34% off sticker :giggle:)

Mazda MX-5 (formerly known as Miata). Yup, that-thar is 181 raging hamster powers under the hood. But considering I'm WOT most of the time and still get over 30 MPG, I'd call it a win.

They were pretty obsessive about removing weight, and apparently the strange gearing allowed for a physically smaller and lighter differential. The bonus is less drivetrain loss in top gear... which I think actually makes a difference at higher speeds.

There are somewhat common transmission issues, rumored to possibly be related to the low first gear putting lots of stress on the case. I wonder if this is why the JL's manual has such a low torque rating also.
What is the torque rating on the trans itself? I know the clutch has had to have the 3.6 derated during certain scenarios, but thought the trans itself was stout enough.
