Hey guys,

So my wheels started squeaking pretty loudly (video attached) and my mechanic said upper and lower ball joints on both sides need to be replaced (I'd love to hear your thoughts!)

He wants to install Mevotech ball joints, I was wondering if anyone has ever installed those and what is your feedback on them?

Wrangler Unlimited Sahara JL
Thanks

Never heard of them. Their website doesn’t say anything that makes me think that they’re much different than anything you could buy at the local parts house.

I’ve got a set of Teraflex ball joints in the garage that will get installed one of these days.

That's exactly right. Mevotech is a popular aftermarket brand of ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, and other suspension components. They are decent quality but nothing special. They are not as good as Moog Problem Solver, for example. I would install Mevotech ball joints in a Corolla or the like as a cheaper alternative to OEM. The Wrangler is unique in having so many better aftermarket options available that I would not use them simply because I'd rather have better than OEM.

Stick with proven high quality ball joints. OEM has proven to be lacking. Dynatrac is the king of the ball joints at the moment. Possibly Metalcloak will rise in reputation, but right now they're the new kid on the block with their rebuildable/adjustable ball joints. I chose Dynatrac since everyone who has them has no problems with them. Other makes vary. Dynatracs are the most expensive ball joints I've ever bought. But I'm glad I have them.

My dynatrac ball joints get installed on Monday. Yup, $600 parts are a bit costly for a set.

But……. You can rebuild all four ball joints for 150.00, and if you have to use a shop they’re rebuildable in place which should also save you money……. They’re expensive up front, but it’s also some of the best money I’ve spent……
