Spring-overs are trash for roll center. I did it to my CJ-5 mostly because it was cheap and I had no money to properly rework the spring packs. Soon after, I rolled it. Ran it another couple years with the roll bar listing to the right. A constant reminder never to do that again.
Especially combined with the short wheelbase. The wagoneer was still pretty stable sprung over, but that was on full width d60s and 37s so the width and the unsprung weight helped with stability.

I don't think I ever said there was no wheeling on the east coast? You see plates from all over the country in moab and on the Rubicon, how many plates to you see at windrock from west of the Mississippi let alone west of the Rockies? I'd settle for those private parks if I was on the east coast (or I'd move west... like we did after a year in PA). We roadtripped to Alabama to visit family and had a blast at stoney lonesome and hot springs ORV. Would I drive 3000 miles just to wheel windrock? Hell no. We have bucket list trails that draw people from around the world. Y'all have some great trails but I (and most people) wouldn't call them bucket list worthy or worth a multi day drive to run.
That's aight, y'all don't need to be crowding our trails.

Thats what I'm talking about, it's just a pleasant road with cliffs, like 550. until you get to that part. But it's run over with RAZRs, those are the real obstacles. Has been for years.

Is that a pic of you out there? Geez, waaay bigger balls than me. Maybe it's an "age" thing. I'm getting old and know it, trying to survive as long as I can. Then again, I cannot get close to the edge of the Grand Canyon while younger people are backing up to it and taking selfies. I turn around and walk away, half expecting to hear a long harrowing scream as I do.
That's why we do moab trips mid summer. In the Jeep with the AC on, who cares if it's 104⁰ outside? The sxs guys don't come out in that weather.

I've had my share of shitboxes over the years. Definitely fun to beat on something you don't give a damn about. Getting stranded when they fail not so much.
It was a cockroach, I put 4 tires on it in 3 years, and gas, and a mandatory yearly inspection in Japan. It will be around end of times. I keep seeing them in the states and everybody I talk with refuse to sell!

I used to be scared of heights, but then I went to work doing heavy highway construction (building bridges) when i was 18 ... being the youngest I had to climb the diesel hammer and was usually the guy hanging off the side of beams and I got over it real quick and actually came to kindof enjoy it. There is still some fear there, I'm not crazy, but it is usually nothing I can't overcome.

Some people on this form refer to the 4-door Wrangler as a "minivan," or a "fatty." But with or without the 392, manual or auto, it's a helluva lot of fun to drive. Smiles per mile are very high indeed.
ONly thing I miss about driving a 4 door vs 2 door, is parking lot agility. Having to play the rear hatch to load groceries game, dont miss it a bit.

Im not exactly afraid of being high, its the chance of falling and dying thats my issue lol. That said Im glad I went out there with the rest of them cause the view is awesome.
Yes, that's it exactly. You said it much clearer than I ever could. Height doesn't bother me, but when I get close to the edge, I get an overwhelming feeling that something is trying to pull me over. Sometimes I can overcome it, most times I can't.

Yea and if there is a railing or glass or whatever I can be right up against it. But if its just a drop then I try to stay at least my height away cause if I fall down I know will be still back from the edge so long as I dont bounce and roll lol

Oh and what @Krondor did to me on the way back was just stop, turn around, and kick a few small pebbles down over the edge "Huh thats a good bit down there isnt it?" lol

Told him "Sure is lets go ahead and talk about it about 100' that way"

I'll admit I had to make sure to keep a hand on the rock on that corner, it slopes away and is out there quite a bit, but mostly it was just beautiful.

That's a great idea! Never thought about it that way. I've only been to Moab in late spring/early summer or late summer/early fall and for the last 10 years or longer the whole place was run over with SxS's. So much so that I questioned my sanity for coming back.

Go figure, I was using the same reasoning as the SxS guys. I can see a possible mid-summer trip to Moab in my future. But that's the time I really enjoy being in Colorado, catching up with relatives, camping, fishing and riding the mountain trails. Now that I am mostly retired, maybe do both!

Thanks!

If you don't go to all the regular trails, like Hell's and Fins you don't see them as much.

Height doesn't bother you. Except, of course, when height very clearly bothers you?

I'm getting a lot better about overcoming my fear of heights. I can pretty much walk up to the edge of most drop offs without flinching now. Put me on a climbing wall, however, and holy shit, I freeze up like my brain just discovered the theory of gravity.
