Is 22 m.p.g. good for a Wrangler JL w/manual transmission. I'm not off-roading this vehicle and drive a lot through the city. I drive it hard like I did with all my old MoPars. And I only use 1-4 gears and never 5 or 6 It is the 3.6 It's stock, because I actually bought it for MN Winters, and it's so much fun in the snow it shortens the long Winters. I suppose off-road tires would give me less mileage per gallon. Anyone else not use 4th or 5the gear. I don't like to drive it fast, because it isn't, but sometimes on the way to work I crank it up to 80 m.p.h. and let 4th gear pull it back down to the speed limit, and that doesn't hamper the m.p.g. Of course in Winter the m.p.g. drops down, because of all the idling, and playing in the snow.
22mpg sounds great! I average 19mpg in my JLUR, tho most of the milage is highway, rarely above 70.

3.6L w/ 8-speed auto running the OE sized tires I seem to get 20 MPG no matter city of highway. I do notice the ZF 8-speed with this engine shifts gears a lot more than in does in my 5.7L Charger.

Coming up on 12K miles and averaging 25mpg with the 2.0L turbo and the 8-speed auto with stock A/S Michelins. I thought running with doors and windows off would drop the mpg but it doesn't seem to have affected it too much. I'm very pleased with the mileage thus far.
Also averaging just over 25 MPG with a 2.0 liter turbo 2 door, completely stock.

Out of curiosity...do you have 3.45 or 4.10 gearing? Guess that has an effect when it comes to the manual experience apart from mpg.

On the interstate I get 15 MPG with 35s and 4:56 gears. That is with the 3.6L and automatic. LOL
personally I never was worried about m.p.g. in a performance vehicle. And I do consider a Wrangler a performance vehicle. I'm sure with the set-up you have 15 m.p.g. would be totally worth it. I'm actually surprised that the Jeep Wrangler is getting such good fuel mileage, especially the 2.0. But I like the 3.6 without e-torque, and if the rear gears were changed out, i'm sure that 5th gear would be getting used.

Oh, I am not complaining. I have driven sports cars most of my life so gas mileage was never great lol. I do wish it didn’t have e torque though. It’s just something to break later. But even that is what it is at this point.

3.45 gears from the factory, and it can make for a touchy clutch engagement from a start at the red light. But it's fun to pop the clutch a little from take off and jump off the line. I do like to let the person know I have a manual, by taking my foot off the brake (if I can) after a vehicle gets behind me so they see my brake lights are off and the Wrangler isn't moving. With the particular transmission and shift linkage, it needs a little more time to get into second. But i'm not into 0-60 times. Most drivers then know you're driving a manual. There's obviously more ways to get your kicks driving a Wrangler, but i'll do that to anyone in a Bronco, and let people watch the Wrangler instead of the competition.

I get 12.5 MPG on a 3.6 automatic. 22 would be amazing.
Yes, but you’ve probably got 35” tires and 4.56 gearing, like me. 12.5 on the street, 13.5+ at 60 mph+ around L.A. basin, and up to 23 on highway between Las Vegas and L. A. (somewhat above 65 mph).

Retired and loving it!
But then we've never bought a Jeep thinking of fuel ecomomy. Couldn"t even tell you what the EPA MPG rating is on our JL. It was the same with our motor home...we didn't purchase it because of it"s amazing fuel economy (we averaged a bit under 6-mpg).

Driving in Nebraska on I-80 heading to California I found some 93 octane with no ethanol in it. I drove 70 mph and got 19.2. When I bought premium that had 10%-15% ethanol I got about 16 going the same speed. I drove 3,700 miles total, and that's including doing the trail. I averaged 16.2 overall. That's a 19 Rubicon with 3.6, stock gears, 4.5" MC lift, and 37's with beadlocks.

I always try to drive in 6th gear and set cruise control for the best mpg. Mpg always gos up in 6th gear and if you’re not in a hurry at 50 mph you should get great mpg

I ask because I was thinking of getting manual, I've driven automatics in manual mode before and don't mind...but now I live in city with much stop and go traffic. I'd be fine with the sport but the 3.6 manual with 3.45 seems to be very inadequate for everyone...so was thinking of getting the automatic with the sport or manual with the willy's...

I'm getting 17 to 18 in my daily stop and go traffic. Upwards of 21 on open road depending on how much fun I decide to induldge in. Highest I've had is 24.

I'm really surprised at what this oversized go-kart can do. Its fairly nimble, fun off the line, takes off like holy hell in 3rd, and can be fairly decent on gas.
