I can make the gauge say ridiculous numbers, doesn’t make it accurate. Most stats are misleading without any context.
Dude I did 355 miles from a single tank fill. A 2 door has a 17 gallon tank. I figure I got around 25MPG from NV to CO. Because I noticed the distance between towns 350 miles total between my segments. I used ODO to keep track. when I had to take a different route. Miles posted on signage don't lie. My odo verified signage did not lie. The reason why I took the a picture was that the estimated miles on a tank after fill was pretty darned good. The 25.5 MPG did not impress me as I have seen it before at home.

If you live in the Northeast or Northwest, don't concern yourself with the fuel mileage that drivers in the midwest and south are getting, it's not a valid comparison. My averages with both engines in the Northeast have been 19-20mpg. I had one of my 3.6's in the midwest and was pushing 30mpg the entire time. 55mph on a straight flat road will do that.

Jeeps do fine MPG wise if left stock. At least the Sport models.
They do. I'm sitting at 27.x MPG, in the Northeast, as I type this post. Granted, I don't have a heavy foot.

The few times I have fooled around with the boost, I watched the 10ths quickly drop off. A fair trade. 👍

Take 70 leaving Denver? Isn’t that downhill? lol Might’ve had the wind at your back too.

Best I ever mustered on a hwy trip is 21-22mpg avg w/ 3.6 auto.
I used to live in Evergeen, CO (8,200') and commuted to Denver on I70. On the way to work I maintained a 99mpg average for the first 15 miles - regardless of vehicle. On the way home, not so much.... :(

But...I went through brakes faster than normal.

I hadn't really been paying attention to my average mpg. Looked down today and was surprised that I was over 28. But I am still running a stock suspension and A/S tires with a combination of mostly highway and city driving. I also haven't done the auxiliary battery delete so the ESS still works, too.

I know we don't buy our Jeeps for their fuel economy, so this for me was a pleasant surprise.
Both the 2.0 turbo (gasser) and the 3.0 turbo (diesel) are really efficient engines when you get right down to it. As long as you're not throwing a ton of extra weight on the vehicle, you can get really good mileage just from driving like a sane person.

Shoot I still average 21 mpgs driving normally on 37s with my EcoDiesel. Not too many people can claim that! :involve:

It's good to keep in mind that when the dash tells you is always going to be a few MPGs higher than what you are actually getting if you measure from the pump. But even then, It's close enough that you can usually guesstimate what you're actually getting.

My 21 MPGs is measured from the pump. The Jeep is telling me I'm getting 23, but I know that's bullshit! :like:

No wind at my back. Had climbed up through mountain from northern Sierra NV to a different route. The route I eventually took was hilly, but I had already gassed up leaving Sierra County, CA... I think Hwy 89. Too many Hwys I took through CA, they jumble in my head.

I do get 23.5 to 25MPG here in the southern VA mountains. I had filled in NV and got 355 miles from a tank fill, when I filled up and noticed my MPG gauge. 70... That's where I played cat and mouse with a Porshe Cyanne leaving Denver to NV. I burned enough for 18.0 MPG but we pushed 70MPH to 90MPH though the mountain. Like I keep saying Pedal Monster makes MPG. Its paid for its self within the year. Before I got it I averaged 18.2 MPG following along with others at speed.
That’s doing great, for sure. Best I could manage with a bone stock 19 Sahara 4dr hardtop 2.0 was 27-28 trying to hyper mile on the hwy both ways. It came with 32’s and 3.45’s.

Back last year, I stated all trim levels should have diff gears 33% lower than given in existing packages.

Reason being an uphill ascent requires more power with heavy tires like my Falkin M/Ts or with larger tires 37s, and so on.

You may take a small hit in MPG city wise, but you'll do much better loaded down in a JLU.

I think the reason why I do much better than most is that I dumped the spare and rear seats. Minor lightening by keeping mostly stock. The winch added almost 80lbs using the WARN winch kit on my steel bumper.

Some day, I will regear with 4.7x gears and stick with my 33s. All because mountain roads are more demanding on loaded down JLs.

Had 4.56’s put in the Sahara. Only lost 1-2mpg avg surprisingly with the 2.0 but I agree with you. Really, if I swap the 4.10’a in the Rubicon, I’m considering 4.88’s with the 3.6. It downshifts a little more often on inclines than the 2.0 did. I acknowledge the Rubicon weighs a little bit more but I think the 3.6 just needs the mechanical advantage.

Odd... mine is pretty accurate. It told me I had 350 miles on my remaining mostly full tank. I got 355 miles... 5 miles of which when the dash had no miles left to calculate. Had 1 gallon left in the tank by then. I assume some tank sending units on JL models are out of spec with linearity. The ecu relies on a good calibration.

To test... fill tank and monitor mpg until 3/4 tank. Fill again and do the same 2 more times. Keep the average of the results logged. Next wait for 1/2 tank reading and fill only 4 gallons... should give a close 3/4 full reading, repeat like you did previously. If you notice a good deviation between Full to 3/4 and 3/4 to 1/2 tank, your ecu will be off on MPG calculations.

I guess having a 2019 (pre corona and parts availability issues) may be better on fuel senders than 2020 on up. Just giving a possibility to check on.
