In addition to that change of the PCV valve, the following information might be helpful. The Valvoline Restore & Protect is also API-SP rated for LSPI (Low Speed Pre-Ignition) protection. Regardless of what else is done, I wouldn't bother running any oil that isn't API-SP rated.

Ok I watched the videos but I’m not a science geek, so I’ll just ask you. Now that you’re on your second motor. What oil and gas specifically are you choosing?

I use 91 octane (No 93 in CA), and I'm running 0w40 now, this fill is Amsoil, but only because I happened on some for cheap. Next fill will be a 0w40, likely either the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic European (need to learn more about the latest changes to this oil) or the Mobil 1 ESP.

Been noticing this annoying rattle that occurs when I depress the gas pedal as the vehicle is coasting anywhere between 20 and 40 mph. It is very quick, only lasting a half second or so, but it happens every time. The rattle isn't that loud either...I can only hear it when the sound bounces off a curb, jersey wall, etc. I only use top tier gasoline, and it seems that octane rating has no effect either. Anyone else notice this too?
Have you tried a tank of ethanol-free gas?

I switched to 89 octane and Penzoil 5w30 based on what I thought I was reading here. I try to follow the threads but they always end up in the weeds. I don’t mind paying for 91 octane, but the oil thing is still making my head spin.

Ethanol-free is difficult to get in my area and expensive, but it does seem to keep the rattling at bay to some extent. Regardless, that's not a long-term, sustainable solution and I was hoping it might be a mechanical issue that could be repaired. Interestingly, I haven't experienced this issue on any engine in any vehicle with any gasoline since the 1970's, so it's apparently just another "Jeep thing" we're supposed to be OK with. Having driven all manner of Jeeps for decades, the numerous issues inherent with the JL are really getting old. :headbang: I'd gladly dump it and take my old M38 or CJ-5 back any day. Sad to say, but this engine rattle is yet another reason why the JL will be the last Jeep I ever buy.

M38 - are you too prior service? I drove the M151 before it went out of service.

Check your exhaust heat shields.

Thanks for the recommendation. This is one of the first things I checked, but the noise is clearly coming from the engine itself, exactly like the old knocking/pinging that was so prevalent in the 1970's. More octane and less ethanol helps, but I can still (barely) hear it. Granted, it's not loud or annoying, but a modern engine with less than 10,000 miles on it shouldn't be doing this IMO.
